In the words of Noddy Holder…it’s Christmaaaaasssssssssssssssssssssssssssss! Yes, here at Nusic we’d like to wish you a very merry Christmas by sending you off to 3 awesome gigs over the Christmas fortnight.

The first gig is a one off Stealth Vs Rescued on a Friday (23rd) with THE MONEY, TASTEBUDS, PARKS, CHRIS REEVE ESQ and MOTORMOUF at The Rescue Rooms.

MOTORMOUF is a fantastic beatboxing talent from Notts who’ll provide entertainment in the form of clicks, raspberries and boomerangs. Confused? Check him out to see what I mean.

CHRIS REEVE ESQ always manages to put a smile on my face. His songs are a little bit angry because of his punk influences but they turn happy again when he plucks and twangs his banjo to make nice melodies.

Moving on to the bands PARKS are also on the bill. One of the most talked about artists in Notts at the moment which is probably why they won (jointly) the public vote in our DID comp. PARKS are a supergroup made up of some of Notts most established musicians. Kind of like Them Crooked Vultures with midlands accents and mandolins.

TASTEBUDS are up next and aside from having a very pretty keyboardist, they’re a fun band to watch live. I defy you not to dance. Their clothes are as exciting as their music which blends pop, rock and folk in joyous harmony. Amen.

What other great way to end this gig than with our FUTURE SOUND OF NOTTINGHAM winners THE MONEY. They’re headlining the last SvR of 2011 and 5 months ago they were opening the main stage at Splendour festival. What a year it’s been for these boys. Here’s to 2012.

Tickets: £5 otd.
Doors: 8pm

Our second gig of the christmas fortnight is SOUNDDHISM at The Bodega Social with ROYAL GALA, 1ST BLOOD, NINA SMITH, WE ARE AVENGERS and KABEN.

Opening the night are KABEN followed by WE ARE AVENGERS, they describe them selves as “Pretty eclectic, our headline sound is DJ Shadow meets Portishead meets Massive Attack (at least aspirationally), but with a heavy line in Funk and Dub.” Interesting, looking forward to this one!

Then we have the lovely NINA SMITH who is one of the biggest heroes in the Nottingham music scene! Her gorgeous vocals are some of the best around and probably one of the reasons why she was the only solo act to make it to the final of our DiD Comp. I’m looking forward to this more than Christmas day!

Next up is hip-hop monster group 1ST BLOOD! This lot will blow your socks off with there bangin tunes with three mc’s plus LIAM BAILEY on vocals and a full band behind them. Sure to help burn off any unwanted christmas dinner calories.

Headlining are 9 piece party rockers ROYAL GALA. There is no band in the world like this lot. Their lively electro-latin sound will have you dancing all the way through to new year. Can’t stress enough how important it is for your happiness that you witness this band.

DOORS: 9:00 til 3:00
TICKETS: £5 in advance, £7 on the door.

LEFTLION and I’M NOT FROM LONDON presents…NYE Extravanganza at THE MAZE on Saturday the 31st of December.

New years eve tends to be an over-rated, expensive, anti-climax…but this line up will fire you into 2012 like a flaming midget launched from a cannon.

BABY GODZILLA are playing although these guys don’t so much “play” their music as violently ram it down your throat. A crazy good band that are worth the entrance fee on their own. BABY GODZILLA would beat the real Godzilla in a fight without a doubt. Probably by smashing him in the knee caps with guitars or by creating sounds so deafening that he would run away crying.  Can’t get any better? Oh it can, this is also the official launch party for “Oche”. Expect blood, sweat and beers.

Also playing are CAPTAIN DANGEROUS who’s heartfelt indie/pop vibe is turning heads across the country after featuring in Hollyoaks, Fresh Meat and also an ITV Football advert which you can watch here, but better still go and watch them for real on the night!

HOT JAPANESE GIRL will also be creating some late night mayhem with their “frat pop/party krank”, and if you have any sweat left from the other acts then this lot will squeeze the last frothy drops out of you.

Other acts to look forward to include the gypsy jazz punk rabble MANIERE DES BOHEMIANS, the Future Sound of Nottingham winners from 2010, LONG DEAD SIGNAL, solo rock act TRAY ELECTRIC and GAZ from the BREADCHASERS!

Expect to wake up on the 1st of Jan with multiple mystery bruises, a steaming hangover and a big smile.

DOORS: 7PM – til very late
TICKETS: £5 (earlybird), £7 (advance) and £10 (on the door).

Yours in love of New Music,

Tom and Danielle x
