Yay, the Christmas market is officially up in Market Square. Meaning that the process of slow weight gain from excessive festive food has arrived #finally. But, this isn’t a food Top Three (although, that’s an idea). It’s about banging local music. So, between scoffing your faces, we recommend checking out this awesome lot, who are making us feel sassy in our freshest garms, getting our musical willies out and getting our grunge on.

FRIDAY

Does HARLEIGHBLU need an introduction? If attitude had a voice, it’d probably (definitely) sound like HARLEIGHBLU’s distinct, deep, husky tone. Her unmistakable music makes us feel sassy, empowered and ready to take on the world in our freshest clobber.

CHAI LARDEN and BEN HIBBERT make pretty, acoustic songs about love and personal growth that send messages of positivity and good vibes. With Chai’s sultry tone and Ben’s perfectly placed harmonies, these two will get you humming their tunes for days on end.

You may remember MOLLIE RALPH from the Future Session we did with her, here. She sings about politics, love and everything in between with catchy melodies and an impressive vocal range.

SATURDAY

The delightfully named ARSE FULL OF CHIPS (no, we’re not messing with you…) are playing at Rock City this Saturday for one last reunion. Could they become the seventh Nottingham artist to sell out RC? We recommend getting some chips down ya then going along for some sometimes shocking, always fun, brilliantly bizarre tunes such as ‘You Can’t Pull a Burger’ and…ahem…’Get Your Willy Out’ (please don’t).

Support comes from THE SHRIVES who make the kind of British Indie-Rock music that will make you feel like you’re in your local having a dance and a chat about life over fags and ales.

SATURDAY

Playing at The Chameleon on Saturday are LUXURY STRANGER, who make grown up rock music that feels like it should be played out from a stadium with 1000s of people dancing around Ian Curtis style to lyrics like ‘all I have to do is wrap you up in plastic and you’re my little girl, big wide eyes and a jellied mind, a soul as dark as sin’.

THE MADELINE RUST will be taking us on an emotional journey with songs that pack a powerful, loud and atmospheric punch. Maybe it’s the cello on their tune ‘Zooey’, the slurry voice of singer Lucy Morrow or the distorted guitar melodies, but this band have got a really distinct sound that’s a bit like 90s grunge reinvented with a Nottingham twist.
