STOP PRESS: 12:30 27/07/16 – Summer Jam has been cancelled, and they are working on a new date.

After a super hot week of both gigs and weather last week, and a massive 48 hours for Notts musicians, I think we need a chill out… Good job we have two days to recover, then there’s an Acoustic night in an Eastwood pub, a Grime filled Jam at the Conference Centre and a charity band night at Mansfield’s Stag and Pheasant.

TUESDAY

Roots Acoustic are hosting one of their weekly nights at the Wellington Inn in Eastwood this Tuesday. The night brings a whole load of homegrown talent to your local pub, and it’s never quite certain what you can expect.

Tuesday, you can catch BEN MARK SMITH who will be bringing a touch of acoustic Blues Rock. Roots regular ANDREW PARR will be showing you what he’s got Acoustic styley. And finally, DEREK will be performing. Yup, DEREK... We might not know a whole lot about these artists, but they’re starting out like all the big stars did. You never know, Derek may just be the next Bugg. Maybe.

THURSDAY

Summer Jam’ 16 is coming to Nottingham this Thursday, bringing some of the best Urban and Grime artists from across the UK (and more importantly Nottingham) for an awesome summer festival. Headlining are Chipmunk, Section Boyz and Geko.

GINO (or Gi Na Na No, as you may know him) will be bringing his massive energy to the evening. With a couple million YouTube views hiding under his (vast variety of) hats and over 60,000 Twitter followers, Gino is making a name for himself in the world of Grime. We hear Gi Na Na No was shooting a new music video last week, but one thing’s for sure, he’ll be bringing the party all night at the Summer Jam.

One of Nottingham’s finest MC’s, MEZ will be spitting some of the fiercest bars Hoodtown has to offer. Holding a lot of love from 1Xtra DJ Sian Anderson, tons of videos and sessions with SBTV and a Maida Vale session accompanied by a hip hop orchestra, if you haven’t heard the sounds of MEZ already, then you’re about to.

DDOT has collaborated with tons of Grime artists over the past few years, showcasing his talent across a whole load of awesome projects such as Flaming from his latest EP ‘Dreams Money Can’t Buy.’

Hip Hop duo YOUNG T & BUGSEY will be performing on Thursday. The pair have racked up over half a million views on their YouTube channel from songs such as ‘Glistening’ and ‘Don’t Know’. Last month they invited fans to come along to the filming of their video for new single ‘No Mickey Mouse Ting’ and some dude called Stormzy turned up for the ride… I think that says it all.

Finally, JAMEELAH will be playing. We can’t find much on her, but what we have found is pretty epic. Last October she released a music video for her song ‘No Sleep’ which involves some seriously awesome choreography from J plus her school mates and some even better sounds.

FRIDAY

Friday sees StagBandLive take place at the Stag and Pheasant over in Manny T. It sees four Notts acts take to the stage and it’s all in aid of CLIC Sargent which supports children and young people with cancer.

First up is RICHARD JENKINS. Creating room silencing, heart warming sounds, the acoustic folk of RJ is further enhanced by his tight knit band. After the release of the gorgeous sounding ‘Fading Soldier’ EP last year, we can’t wait to hear some new tracks from him.

With a great band name and even greater hair, DOOHICKEY WIRE are playing on Friday. Fronted by Pete Rabjohns, the band formed at Southwell Folk Festival a few years back. After it took Pete 8 years between writing his first and second song, he worked out it’d take him around 100 years to write an album. Let’s hope it comes quicker than that.

It’s been a busy few weeks for SUPER FURNITURE, from playing Rock City for the FSN final to opening up Splendour festival with a killer set. The SF lads only formed as a four piece late last year but have gone on to do some pretty awesome stuff (^see above, duh). Be prepared for a solid headbang to their super tight, pop-infused Indie sound.

Bringing their super catchy Indie Pop Rock are FOR THE GIRL. The five-piece all bring their own style to the amalgamation that is the FTG sound. They recently launched their brand new EP ‘Shark Attack’ at the Bodega, which we hear featured some pretty intimidating sharks. You can hear their brand new single ‘Earthquake’ on the latest NMP here.
