Another week in Notts = another week of sick, game changing, diverse music. After you’ve been to our workshop with Spotify on Tuesday (2 more sleeps!), I’m sure you’ll be feeling inspired and ready to hear some new tunes. Well, we got you. There’s something for everyone this week, as we finally solve the age-old mystery of what Liam Gallagher and Hollyoaks have in common, provide the soundtrack for the next Mortal Kombat release and get our tissues ready for a good ol’ cry.

WEDNESDAY

Wednesday sees Confetti take over Rough Trade, showcasing some of the best of Confetti‘s degree students. They’re a bloody talented bunch.

BLACK CATS AND MAGPIES make distinct, alternative rock that combines driving rhythms and ambient harmonies. The result is tunes that will both get you reminiscing with your mates about old times and jumping headfirst into the moshpit.

What do Hollyoaks and Liam Gallagher have in common? A love of THE CHASE, apparently. Their latest tune ‘As You Were’ has been grabbing attention nationwide, #squadgoals. It’s no surprise really. THE CHASE have been making music for absolutely ages and, quite frankly, it shows. They have a sound well beyond their years. It’s polished, it’s tight, it’s catchy af.

BRIA is bringing Country music into the 21st century. The 18 year old’s sound has got a catchy Pop edge and the stylish, slurry guitar melodies on songs such as ‘Lay Down’ feel like they should be featured on some emotional, season finale moment of The OC.

If you’re looking for some feel good, acoustic vibes then look no further! GUY ELLERTON’s got your back. Think accomplished vocal melodies with classic guitar strumming. The kind of music you put on when you’re walking home after a great day, soaking up all the positivity.

There’s something ethereal about HOLLY TAYLOR-GAMBLE’s unique vocals that will send a shiver down your spine and make your hair stand on end. Teamed with her poignant lyrics, her sound is a bit Florence and the Machine with a darker, punkier edge.

AYE NIZZY’s contemplative lyrics and brooding chord sequences have caught the attention of big Grime outlets like SBTV and Lord of the Mics. It’s no wonder. If Nizzy’s music was a recipe it would be a dollop of big bass, a dash of smooth vocals, and the perfect dose of hype to get you skankin’.

AIMÉE STONES will be playing with RIHANNE MEE and making us all cry a bit with their sad (but incredibly beautiful) songs. Sometimes sad songs are the best right? The combination of this duo’s impeccable piano playing, guitar riffs and harmonies are bound to put you on an emotional journey. Tissues at the ready guys.

THURSDAY

Thursday sees the official launch of Hazed. at Saltbox, with the first 50 people through the door getting an exclusive, mystery gift (let us know what it is!). Knucks from North West London is headlining, with loads of Nottingham artists on the lineup.

NARTZ makes some seriously bassy Hip Hop that’ll most likely make ya face sink and then spark the world’s first ever bass-induced earthquake. You have been warned. He’s got a new video coming your way too that has some pretty trippy visuals and a bit of a West Coast vibe.

J GOLD’s ‘Thoughts of a Soldier’ has been my week-long soundtrack. The slick production, J’s impeccable flow and witticisms will keep you coming back for more. His live set will no doubt get your head bopping and maybe even inspire you to write your own 16.

If you’re after bouncy, hyped-up grime tunes that you back to the old school days when we used to spit bars to the ringtones on our phones, let me introduce you to ZED BOYS. This lot have got a modern grime sound but they’ve retained all the fun of the old school days that takes us back and makes us feel all nostalgic.

There’s something a little bit A$AP Mob meets Odd Future about the production behind HARRY DIRT and then his lyrics take us straight to Atlanta and give us just about all the trippy vibes we can take.

KONTRAST brings a bit of a rock edge to Hip Hop with his sound that mixes sharp delivery with electric guitar riffs and makes me feel like his songs should be featured in the final round of a Mortal Kombat marathon.

You can also expect some surprises on the night and potential freestyles from the likes of GARTON, JAH DIGGA, J LITTLES, KAMAR and STAN CROOK.

FRIDAY

CHERRY HEX AND THE DREAM CHURCH are headlining The Bodega this Friday. The band are basically the modern definition of the word ‘feels’. Expect their unique blend of moody, relaxed vocals, minimalist, dreamy beats and an all round musical hug that takes us for a spin around the galaxy.

Continuing the psychedelic journey are SOFT GIRLS AND BOYS CLUB. They mix grungy guitar sounds with synths and falsetto vocals and their music should have featured in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas or some kind of art house flick.

ELANA’s ethereal, soft, sweet tone is so enchanting it’s no wonder she caught the attention of Nina Nesbitt this year! Her music makes us feel like we’re wandering through a magical forest on a hazy day.
