Can’t quite believe I’m writing these words down on electronic paper, but somehow, this week we enter December. Bloody ‘ell. Mental init?

Now whether you’ve had your crimbo jumpers out since November 1st, or you’re a bit more of a Scrooge, there’ plenty of New Notts Music to embrace, or combat that festive spirit.

WEDNESDAY

JOSH KEMP has a beaut new single out there, and to celebrate, he’s throwing a launch party at Rough Trade with a bunch of ace Notts muso’s.

If you’re unfamiliar with Josh, he’s one of the most charismatic musicians you’ll ever meet. Often found with a guitar and loop pedal (this show however, features full band!), he’ll blow your mind with super catchy fast-paced jams, and pull at your heart-strings with some of the sweetest ballad’s you ever did hear. And, if the beaut music doesn’t win you over, the fact he holds award for “most charming human on the planet ever” probably will.

There’s a super strong support lineup kicking things off too. GEORGE GADD is up first. Well, actually, the artist name this time is GEORGE GADD DUO. Ooh, maybe he’s genetically copied himself? That’d be awesome. We’d love two of the same human making awesome Folky sounds… or, ya know, maybs he’s just got someone else performing with him… WHO KNOWS – we’re sure it’ll be awesome though.

Next up is “leave the room pin-drop silent-er” BILLIE. Having just released her debut EP (chilling alongside the likes of Ed Sheeran in the iTunes singer-songwriter charts, dontcha know), she’s been stunning humans around the shire with her spine-tingling acoustic vibes. Honest and delicate songwriting – the type that really speaks to ya, plus one of the most incredible voices we’ve heard means that BILLIE, well, she’ll probably have ya breaking down mid song. But be quiet, yeah?

Finally, pre Mr Kemp, we have JOSEPH KNIGHT, another one of those humans that’s really annoying cos they seem to be good at everything. A silky smooth voice, ridiculously catchy hooks, plus an on-stage persona that you want to hug as much as ya do idolise. And he’s only in his late teens. God sake Joe, stop it. If ya want your heart-strings well and truly torn, have a look at his latest vid for ‘Hold Onto Me’. I won’t say more than that.

FRIDAY

Friday Club Presents are back at Retro Rooms with some of Notts’ finest Indie bands. For a Christmas shindig… at least it’s in December!

PAPER SHOP DAVE kick things off with their diverse Indie-stylings. I appreciate diverse can be a bit of a naff term, but we really mean it with these guys. Their most recent single ‘Reappear’ shows a much softer, delicate sound to the band. Whereas some of their previous singles have been proper in your face Indie bangers. And frontman George has some sick jumpers. Oh my god, maybe he’ll wear a Christmas jumper?

AMULET are up next with their riff-tastic sounds. After the many months of us being in love with their single ‘Temptress’, we still haven’t heard any new music from them. Sad face. BUT – we reckon that’s because they’ve been crafting some huge new tunes, locked in a musical warehouse in the middle of Mansfield… maybe. We have no idea if that’s true. We hope it is. That’d be nice… the new music we mean.

THE TANGENTS are also on board to keep ya hooked in with some super-catchy hooks. We first heard ‘Fall Apart’ a good year or so ago, and we still find ourselves wondering down Pelham Street shouting “WE JUST FALLL APARHHHHT”… the Big Issue guy has stopped talking to me now. No wonder. Anyways, they have some proper catchy tunes, and like everyone on this bill, will leave ya with proper guitar skillz envy.

Finally – we have CADETS. I remember the first time we received one of their demos, early 2013 I reckon, called ‘Deep Red Eyes’, and it proper had us hooked in with their unique approach to Indie-Rock. Three years later, and they’ve proper refined their sound. We reckon they’ll round the night off in suitable Indie-Rockstar style.

SATURDAY

Notts – you’re really knocking the ‘bah, humbug’ out of us. We have another Christmas party full of Notts music on Saturday, and it’s looking like a proper fun one.

Hard Rock Metal-ers BECKON LANE are hosting it / headlining it. So at the end of the night ya can expect a high-energy mosh-tacular, but, before ya get there, you’ve got a whole day worth of beaut music to get through. From the riff-lords of PATRIOT REBEL to the Prog-instrumental brilliance of THE PARALLAX METHOD, there’s plenty of high energy awesomeness to keep ya going through the day.

If ya feel ya need a rest from the amps turned up to eleven, there’s an acoustic stage too. On that stage you’ll find all manner of beaut Acoustic sounds, from LISA DE’VILLE’s Alt-Folk sounds, to CONFYDE’s stripped down Alt-Rock. *CLICHE ALERT* there’s a little something for everyone. And, it’s only a fiver. Get in, get your antlers on, and have a good time, humbug.
