STOP PRESS 6.30pm 30/06/15: It has been confirmed that LISA DE’VILLE will also be performing at THE IDOLINS album launch gig!

As ever, this week we’ve found three more cool little nuggets of Nottingham music for yer hungry little ears. Notts in a Nutshell will be showcasing some of Nottingham’s finest musical talent; an Indie Rock band have nabbed their FIRST EVER headline gig; and a Folky Pop Album launch, with a side dish of the finest Americana this side of the pond. It’s all happening this week!

GIG ONE

First up we’ve got some diverse Notts musical loving thanks to Notts in a Nutshell!

Hankering for some Hip-Hop? TRUTH aka MR WHEELS will be kicking off the night. He’s a 24 year old rapper/songwriter and producer gifted to us from New Jersey. In the past, Truth has performed at numerous events, and came third out of 23 contestants at Nottingham’s Got Talent. He’s currently working on his debut mixtape titled ‘Accessibility’, which speaks of his life not only as a struggling rapper, but also as a disabled man. Expect honest, straight talking lyrics and infectious beats.

Next will be BLUE VULTURE, who are a feel good four-piece Indie Rock band signed by Carrion Records. Their infectious back beat laced with melodic and cutting lyrics perfectly crafts their catchy Indie sound. We’re sure they’ll be playing loads from their incredible EP “Amateur Tape Recording“, which is available to freely peruse online.

Jazz-Rock fusion trio DOUBLE HELIX are next up on the musical menu. Bass player Richard has been with the band for YEARS, and contributed to their first album “Sea of Sand” in 1992! (That’s when I was born, guys). Since then, members Harry and Sam have joined, and helped release second album “A Million Deadly Spores“, which demonstrates some incredibly moreish songs.

Finally, EINSTEIN’S LOVECHILD will be rounding off the night. They’re an Alternative Rock four-piece whose influences are drawn from the likes of Pixies, Belle & Sebastian and Warpaint. Loaded with ambition and prowess, these guys (and gal) create tight riffs with driving drums, and are sure to get you moving.

Also playing will be Section 47 from Derby.

GIG TWO

IN THE TEEPEES will be playing their first ever headline gig at Bodega this Monday. These guys are an Indie trio who possess some super catchy riffs and punchy vocals. They’ve got a great vibe; upbeat songs, masterful harmonies, and energetic stage delivery. Not to mention their Indie ruffian tendencies – they’re the ones that started that insane mosh pit for SUSPECT ALIBI’s set at this year’s FSN! So yeah, if you got accidentally elbowed in the face that night or anything, it was them!! *Points and runs away*

Joining them as support will be Hucknallians CONNOR SPRAY & THE INDIEABEES, whose angsty Rock & Roll swagger will have you hooked on every strum. These boys are edgy, with some delicately infectious melodies, and we’ve just heard frontman Connor recently recruited his little brother on the drums! What a Rock & Roll family!

There will also be a super Special Guest supporting (I know something you don’t knowww). They’ve had some recent Radio 1 AirPlay, and that’s all I can say. Happy guessing! Mwahaha. Or, you know, come on down to find out…

GIG THREE

THE IDOLINS are having their album Launch Party this Friday at Canalhouse Bar. These guys are a five-piece Acoustic, Folk and Pop act, using instruments such as guitars, percussion, piano, cello, banjo AND mandolin. Quoting the songsmiths themselves, their music ‘warms the soul’. Karen Smalley’s storytelling songwriting, interlaced with gorgeous harmonies, slithering strings, and dazzling percussion make music perfect to hide away from the rain to.

THE MOST UGLY CHILD are a six-piece Country/Americana powerhouse band Signed by Wire and Wool. They’ll be there to gift you with the best Americana you’ll find this side of the Atlantic. Their emotionally rousing music is so diverse; it has the tendency to either get you dancing on tables, or weep. Let’s hope it’s the latter, and turn the Canalhouse into my dream of a British version of Coyote Ugly. We’ll just have to pretend health and safety isn’t such a huge issue here…

P.S SAINT RAYMONDYoung Blood‘ album launch will be at The Bodega on Saturday 4th July! There’s two shows, one at 3pm and one at 7pm but we’ve heard they BOTH sold out quicker than this year’s Glastonbury tickets. Well, maybe not quite that fast, but still pretty quick! Anyways, they’re bound to be pretty damn special shows, so those with tickets – enjoy!
