With two EP launches and a lineup full of some great Notts talent, you’ve got no excuse to sit in and watch Eastenders this week!

GIG ONE

First up we’ve got Mid Riff over at Pepper Rocks, which brings four ace Notts acts together on Wednesday, thanks to I’m Not From London.

Kicking the night off we’ll have the Folky Acoustic Pop of BRETT SINCLAIR. Brett has a very distinctive vocal, and believe me when I say he knows how to play his guitar. I can only describe it as “jangly”, yeah, “jangly” Folky Acoustic Pop… basically what I’m trying to get through my rambling is that he’s really good okay!

Next up we have the brilliantly named BABEL FISH; a new duo to the Nottingham scene, and one who despite our journalistic endeavours, we can’t find much on. We can tell you this though, they both “sometimes” sing, and “sometimes” play guitar. Put it this way, if they’re anything like the rest of the talent on this lineup, they’re bound to be amazing!

LIAM O’KANE will be taking to the stage next with his unique breed of rootsy Acoustic Ska. Liam’s earnt himself quite a reputation as a live performer; having performed with some of the Ska and Punk scenes finest such as Mouthwash and Sonic Boom 6, so we’re pretty sure he’ll put on quite a show for you!

Finally, rounding the night off we’ll have Honest-Pop of THE BREAKFAST CLUB. Now I know you may be thinking, “what on Earth is Honest-Pop?” Well, put it this way, THE BREAKFAST CLUB sing songs about how they still find certain girls cute, even after they’ve puked up all over the bog… okay, the sentiments there; but yeah, they’re not singing about Romeo and Juliet. But they are singing about real things, and they know how to write a catchy melody too!

Price: Free
Doors: 8PM

GIG TWO

Next on our Top Three, we have VENOM & THE TERRORTONES’ EP Launch at The Running Horse on Friday.

If you’re not familiar with VENOM & THE TERRORTONES; then, you’re about to be opened up to a brand new world. Basically, they take the best of 80s Glam Rock, sleaze it the heck up, and put on one bloody dirty show. The good kind of dirty, I must add. They’ve got a new EP coming out, “The MonsterPussy Sessions”, so they’ve got plenty of material to test out on you lucky lot. They’re even bringing along burlesque dancers, and fire-breathing flesh eaters to accompany them… here’s a little tip, don’t stand near the front!

The night also sees support from PRIME, one of the best Punk bands that Notts has to offer. They take the close-cut social commentary of Punk and a fair bit of it’s attitude too, and mix it with good old fashioned catchy riffs. Managing to somehow sound like something familiar and something brand new at the same time, these guys really are something special. And they also have a rather charismatic frontman…

The Moonshine Stalkers from London will also be supporting.

Price: £3
Doors: 8PM

GIG THREE

Rounding off our Top Three, we have THE MOST UGLY CHILD who will be throwing a launch party for their new EP at Vintage Warehouse this Friday, thanks to Wire & Wool.

Kicking things off we’ve got another bunch of fellas who aren’t too social on the interwebs, and they go by the name of THE HOG RENDERERS. I’m afraid all we could find on these boys was a quote from Matt Reynolds of mental metalheads BABY GODZILLA; what did he have to say? “Straight up badass Blues for the purist among us.” There you have it. Expect some badass Blues!

Next up we’ll have the gruff Bluesy sounds of Mr RYAN THOMAS. This fella scored No.1 on the iTunes Blues chart with his EP “Worries & Troubles” a few months ago, and to get No.1 anything on iTunes, you have to be super talented. Well, Ryan is; and he’s bloody incredible at making authentic Blues that makes you want to dance, and have a bit of a cry with some bourbon at the same time. The Rip-Roaring Success will also be supporting.

THE MOST UGLY CHILD will take to the stage last with their Folky Americana sounds. Having spent a fair while putting their heart and soul into their new EP “A Wicked Wind Blows”, they now feel they are ready to unleash this beautiful beast of a record upon our ears. They bring an aural assault of instruments together; to make a sound that really is unlike anything else we’ve heard this side of the Atlantic. Get your dancing shoes ready, cause we don’t wanna see one still pair of feet in this barn… YEEHAW… sorry.

Price: Free
Doors: 7:30PM

Yours in Love of New Music,
Sam Nahirny x

Photo: Ralph Barklam Photography This week sees a little something for everyone on the Nottingham music scene.
