You can read our in-depth thoughts on the album in our review HERE; but you shouldn’t need to read it to take the plunge and buy this record, cos it is honestly that good.

Adam was kind enough to take the time to answer a few questions for us about the album and a few other things, here’s what he had to say…

How would you describe your music to those unfamiliar with it?
Progressive folk.

How long had you worked on the album for?
Two years. One year to write and one year to record.

What Notts specific things influences the album? (musically and non-musically)
There are a few songs on the album that has been influenced by the Nottingham music scene and my experience of it.

Why did you not release hardly anything before the album?
I released an EP and a single about three years ago. But it was a college project for a third year student so it was all done very low key and with zero funding.

What influenced the sound of the album?
My guitar was the biggest influence. This album has been quite raw in terms of musical influence and direction. I had an idea in my head of what I wanted to the songs to sound like and I tried my best to realise that.

What’s your favourite track off the album and why?
I like “Sunflowers“. It’s close to my heart for a lot of reasons.

Fulcrum, what does it mean?
Fulcrum is a term which can be used within many different contexts specifically in construction and fishing. It generally means ‘the pivotal point’. This relates to a lever, or a seesaw, or a set of scales; its the point of balance. In fishing the term is used for a part of a sturgeons spine; hence the fish on the front of the album.

What made you want to put a band together for the album?
I wanted to create a sound that was more accessible than just another Acoustic Singer/Songwriter album.

What would be your desert island disc, and why?
Atm it would be Hozier. Any Hozier. All the Hozier. All the time.

You’ve hosted open mics around Notts for a fair bit now, which Notts artists particularly stood out for you over the past few years?
I have met some really talented guitarists over the years. Such as JAMES PRESTON and PATRICK CUNNINGHAM. I have also gained some real close friends. I feel very lucky to be given that role.

We’d like to thank Adam for taking the time to answer these questions!

Well, there you go. As I’m sure you’ll agree, plenty of interesting insights into the mind behind an incredible release for the Notts music scene. If you’ve not got a copy of the album yet, make sure you get yersen over to Adam’s Bandcamp pronto – LINK.

Yours in Love of New Music,
Sam Nahirny x

Photo: A Quick Flash Our Artist of the Month, ADAM PETER SMITH, just released his album two weeks ago, and it really is a beautiful piece of music.
