{"id":15051,"date":"2015-07-19T14:03:11","date_gmt":"2015-07-19T13:03:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nusic.org.uk\/wordpress\/?p=15051"},"modified":"2019-09-05T18:35:10","modified_gmt":"2019-09-05T17:35:10","slug":"top-3-gigs-week-beginning-20th-july-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nusic.org.uk\/wordpress\/top-3-gigs-week-beginning-20th-july-2015\/","title":{"rendered":"TOP 3 GIGS &#8211; Week Beginning 20th July 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This week we\u2019ve got an exciting line up, including an <strong><a href=\"\">I\u2019m Not From London<\/a><\/strong> presents gig, a psychedelic EP launch, and a showcase of Nottingham\u2019s finest Country, Blues and Americana sounds. <\/p>\n<p><strong>GIG ONE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"\">Under The Tree<\/a><\/strong> are gifting us with the best Country, Blues and Americana acts from this side of the Atlantic. <\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"\">THE MOST UGLY CHILD<\/a><\/strong> are a six-piece Country\/Americana powerhouse band Signed by Wire and Wool. Their incredible, emotionally rousing music is so diverse; it has the tendency to either get you dancing on tables, or weep &#8211; probably depending on how much whiskey you\u2019ve had.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"\">RYAN FARMER<\/a><\/strong> previously known as <strong><a href=\"\">RYAN THOMAS<\/a><\/strong> (Apparently he wasn\u2019t too keen on being confused with that bloke from Corrie) is second support for this delectable line-up. Listening to him, you\u2019ll find yourself wanting to sip whiskey while the sun sets. His distinctively Bluesy voice and soulful guitar work weave a web of pure Folk goodness into your soul. Don\u2019t miss out.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"\">RICHARD JENKINS<\/a><\/strong> will be performing his thought provoking acoustic songs. They\u2019re based on some of his life experiences, and are sung so bloody nicely you\u2019ll be reaching for a tissue. He\u2019ll be releasing his debut album \u2018<em>Fading Soldier<\/em>\u2019 in September, and if that poetic title is anything to go by, it\u2019s going to be beautiful.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"\">JOE BARBER MUSIC<\/a><\/strong> is up next to deliver some incredible guitar skills and good ol\u2019 fashioned Blues stylings. Having done a tour of New Orleans and the West Coast of America, this gent has plenty of knowledge and influence of refined American Blues. How about that,ey? True American style Blues without the travel expenses. <\/p>\n<p>Also playing will be the beautiful and talented <strong><a href=\"\">LAUREN APRIL<\/a><\/strong> &#8211; a self-confessed \u2018slightly crazy\u2019 Songstress will be playing her passionate hybrid of Pop, Country and Rock. Her EP was Released April last year (d\u2019you think she picked that month on purpose?) has since been tipped as \u2018more great talent from notts!\u2019 and reminiscent of \u2018an early <strong>Alanis Morissette<\/strong>\u2019; it has gained her a fair few fans and gigs about hood town. <\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"\">Malt Cross<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\n23rd July<br \/>\nDoors: 18.30<br \/>\nAdmission: FREE <\/p>\n<p><strong>GIG TWO<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"\">CROSA ROSA<\/a><\/strong> will be having their \u201c<em>Pantaphobia<\/em>\u201d EP Launch at the <strong><a href=\"\">Nottingham Contemporary<\/a><\/strong> . As a pre-warning, these guys are not for the faint hearted; specifically, those who oppose the practicing of Voodoo and eating souls\u2026 They are a Garage\/Psych Rock band inspired by 60\u2019s surf and psychedelic, who produce a mind-melting sound that is akin to the likes of <strong>The Wytches<\/strong>. They\u2019re also lined up to play <strong>Y Not? Festival<\/strong> in a couple of weeks, beside acts such as <strong>Primal Scream<\/strong>, <strong>Johnny Marr<\/strong>, and <strong>Snoop Dogg<\/strong>. Pretty Impressive stuff, ey?<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"\">FIELD STUDIES<\/a><\/strong> &#8211; these rising Ambient Post-Rock stars have been rapidly winning over both fans and tastemakers with their elegantly crafted soundscapes intertwined with a combination of surging melodies and textures. They\u2019ve just come back from playing <strong>Glastonbury Festival<\/strong>, and took over the <strong>BBC Introducing<\/strong> stage like it was long overdue; perfectly representing Notts music for the brilliance that truly resides here. <\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"\">MANNEQUIN<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 this dynamic Alt-Rock three-piece have ridiculous energy, and a colossal live presence. In fact, to prepare yourself with how intense they are, check out their Future Session, that\u2019ll give you a pretty good idea! They recently played at <strong><a href=\"\">KAGOULE&#8217;S<\/a><\/strong> night during <strong><a href=\"\">Dot to Dot Festival<\/a><\/strong> &#8211; \u2018Kagoule and Friends do the Chameleon\u2019, and wowed (a very sweaty) everyone with their unique distinction and originality. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Nottingham Contemporary<\/strong><br \/>\n25th July<br \/>\nDoors: 18:00<br \/>\nAdmission: FREE <\/p>\n<p><strong>GIG THREE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"\">SAME STREETS<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 these guys will be playing their refined Rock \u2019n\u2019 Roll on this night. Expect soaring vocals with up-tempo songs played with an insane amount of energy. Influences include <strong>The Beatles<\/strong>, <strong>The Clash<\/strong>, and <strong>The Rolling Stones<\/strong>. So, if you\u2019re into of any of these musical delights, you\u2019re gonna love \u2018em.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"\">THE CHASE<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 this trio of youngsters made the whole of the <strong><a href=\"\">Rock City<\/a><\/strong> main room completely lose their shit at this year\u2019s <strong><a href=\"\">FSN<\/a><\/strong>. Their first song immediately started a huge mosh pit. Expect <strong>Oasis<\/strong>-style song with some little nuggets of Egyptianesque harmonic scales and crescendo of sped up instruments. Their talents deceive their ages, and all I can say is if they\u2019re THIS good now, then what the hell are they going to be like in their 20s?<\/p>\n<p><strong>IDOL HANDS<\/strong> &#8211; Despite out journalistic exploits &#8211; we couldn&#8217;t find anything on these fellas. <\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"\">ROBYN HUGHES-JONES<\/a><\/strong> is a sassy songstress who delivers her sultry voice and unique scat singing style. She\u2019s a 21 year old Singer and Songwriter based in Nottingham UK. Her influences range from the vintage sounds of <strong>Otis Redding<\/strong>, <strong>Etta James<\/strong> and <strong>Ella Fitzgerald<\/strong> to the more modern <strong>Joss Stone<\/strong>, <strong>Amy Winehouse<\/strong> and Lianne La Havas.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"\">RAPHAEL BLAKE<\/a><\/strong> intertwines sentient spoken word into his music to create thought provoking songs.
