This week <strong>Rough Trade<\/strong> are putting on another free night (aren\u2019t they good to us?),\u00a0<strong><a href=\"\">I\u2019m Not From London<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0are serving up a right feast of Rock and Blues and we have a Hard Core Metal fest to welcome you into the month of May.<\/p>\n<p><b>THURSDAY<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Marking his second live show at <strong>Rough Trade,<\/strong> <a href=\"\"><strong>NICK ASLAM<\/strong><\/a> is back alongside <a href=\"\"><strong>THE SWIINES<\/strong><\/a> and <strong>SMITH &amp; GROVES.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"\"><strong>NICK ASLAM<\/strong><\/a> is from all over the shop but there\u2019s a couple of reasons why we\u2019re glad to have him currently in Notts. 1) His catchy melodies and skilful songwriting are infectious and if you\u2019re not toe tapping at one of his gigs it must be because you have no toes. 2) His fusion of Folk, Indie and Country music really does just hit the spot. Young, exuberant and sure to be going somewhere. Catch Nick at RT for free. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If Carlsberg did bands\u2026 would it produce <a href=\"\"><strong>THE SWIINES<\/strong><\/a>? Apparently so according to the Nottingham Rock \u2018N\u2019 Rollers. Having supported that Bugg geezer at the Arena in 2014, <strong>THE SWIINES\u00a0<\/strong>have built their own fan base &#8211; one fan famously got on stage with his hands up in worship at a <strong>Rescue Rooms<\/strong> gig last year. With that kind of following and a polished sound, their performance will be a right treat.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With harmonies to make your heart melt, Clifton singer\/songwriters <strong>SMITH &amp; GROVES<\/strong> offer a calming comparison to <strong><a href=\"\">THE SWIINES<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and are simple and effective. Just the way we like it. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Rough Trade<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Doors: 7pm<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Free entry<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>SATURDAY<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Welcoming back to <a href=\"\"><strong>The Running Horse<\/strong><\/a>, <a href=\"\"><strong>I\u2019m Not From London<\/strong><\/a> presents a night of Rock, Blues and Psycho feels. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Taking their name from a John Lee Hooker song, <a href=\"\"><strong>CATBONE\u2019s<\/strong><\/a> Blues vibe is very much morphed between their Electric, Rock \u2018N\u2019 Roll style. Having \u2018more balls than lives\u2019 apparently this three-piece formed when two gents, Jon and Richard, met their drummer Sam at a \u00a0gig (see music makes the magic happen). Expect surfer Blues Rock vibes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Grab yourself a whisky and get ready for the Blues king and his band of merry men (or not so merry, it is the Blues after all). <a href=\"\"><strong>DUSTY BIBLE<\/strong><\/a> a.k.a Mark Lowman provides vocals as well as playing the guitar and harp (wait, did I just say harp?). With those Mississipi vibes, we\u2019re sure <a href=\"\"><strong>DUSTY BIBLE<\/strong><\/a> and the Canadians (that&#8217;s his band, not some randoms up on stage) will blow any cobwebs away.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If raucous Alternative Garage Rock is your thing, then <a href=\"\"><strong>FLEETS<\/strong><\/a> is your thing (trust us on this one). Since forming in 2014, <strong><a href=\"\">FLEETS<\/a><\/strong> have been non-stop gigging and always give tons of attitude. Indie vibes and floppy fringes, we love the energy so give your ears a listen. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Starting off the night, <a href=\"\"><strong>SUNDAZE<\/strong><\/a> (is that a way of saying Sundays or dazed by the sun, i\u2019m just not sure) bring their unique Mac Demarco-esque sunshine psycho rock to the stage. Meg Morris and Sam Shaw\u2019s voice work together harmoniously and with a new EP and demos coming soon, we\u2019re watching this space.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>The Running Horse<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Doors: 7.30pm<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Free entry<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>SATURDAY AND SUNDAY<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For all you metal\u2019eds out there, there\u2019s no better place to be this bank holiday than Trojan Fest. An assault to your eardrums, this is not for the faint hearted. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>SATURDAY<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Described as having \u2018riffs that make you want to punch walls\u2019, <a href=\"\"><strong>TAKEN BY THE TIDE<\/strong><\/a> first announced their Metal\/Progressive sound with their debut release \u2018<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There\u2019s No Such Thing As An Atheist In A Foxhole<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019 (Erm guys, what d\u2019ya mean?). Since then their EP \u2018<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hands of Spite<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019 has received high praise and they\u2019ve been on three UK tours. Releasing new material this year, TBTT will sure to thrash Trojan Fest but make sure you\u2019re not standing next to any walls, okay? \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Four-piece super group <\/span><a href=\"\"><b>DIRIS<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> formed their members from three separate bands (you can see why they call themselves a super-group now eh). Putting their own stamp on extreme New Metal, don\u2019t expect just mosh pits; they guys say \u2018It\u2019s all about the groove, people have gotta want to dance at one of our shows not just hit the pit!\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Playing Progressive, Technical music for progressive technical people, <a href=\"\"><strong>BEYOND GRACE<\/strong><\/a> lead the way when it comes to Omni-Dimensional Death Metal (whatever Omni Dimensional Death Metal may be). All we know is their combination of huge megaton riffs, crashing drum beats and monstrous vocals will have you head banging from start to finish.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With a distinct tri-vocal sound and an EP described as the lovely wobbly parts of a lady, <a href=\"\"><strong>ENORMITY FALLS<\/strong><\/a> have established quite a name for themselves. Having performing at <strong>Rock City<\/strong> twice, EF are no stranger to the stage and we can guarantee you they will deliver 100% melodic, Heavy Metal goodness.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also playing on Saturday: <\/span><b>Reign Of Fury, Shrapnel, From Her Ashes, Internal Conflict, Buried and Forgotten.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>SUNDAY<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before they embark on their UK tour with <strong>Brutal Rocks<\/strong> this May, make sure you catch <\/span><a href=\"\"><b>THE FIVE HUNDRED<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> sweating it out. This quintet certainly knows how to shake the stage and we hear with a recent switch to 8 string guitars they\u2019re ready to take over the world &#8211; or at least they said it\u2019s given them a new found power. Maybe not world domination, just yet?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"\"><strong>FAMOUS FOR NOTHING<\/strong><\/a> apart from being total l-e-g-e-n-d-s, this Nottingham six-piece released their EP <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018Famous40\u2019<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> last month with a launch at <strong>Rock City Basement<\/strong>. Metalcore brought from the sweaty pits of this beautiful county. Mmmmmmmm.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\";ref=br_tf\"><strong>AN EMPIRE WILL FALL<\/strong> <\/a>provide Melodic Deathcore \u2018for fans of jiggy brutal shit to bopp your booty to\u2019 (Eh? Jiggy brutal shit, is that even possible?). We don\u2019t deny it and if AEWF can shake your tail feather then good on \u2018em! Catch them before you get yourself some hearty Trojan Fest fodder.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Metalcore quintet <a href=\"\"><strong>WOLVES DON\u2019T SLEEP<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0recently delighted us with a Future Session and I gotta say, with that many Metal heads in one studio, things got a bit steamy. Having only formed 9 months ago, WDS\u2019 loud attitude are making themselves heard and no doubt Trojan Fest will sit up and listen. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Harcore\/Punk five-piece <a href=\"\"><strong>HVMAN TEETH<\/strong><\/a> are first on the bill and I can\u2019t think of a better way to wet your whistle for the day ahead. A powerviolence combination, if you like surreal, spooky videos check out their new track \u2018<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No Control\u2019<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on YouTube.
