One thing we can say with certainty, no matter what elements we get thrown at us this week, we&#8217;ve got plenty of sun-drenched goodness in the form of music to keep those spirits high! This week you can get down to some Reggae Dub loveliness\u00a0from <\/span><b><a href=\"\">BUD\u2019s<\/a><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> EP launch on Friday, music from all corners of the globe on Saturday and finally a whole host of live acts from Nottingham&#8217;s\u00a0beloved <\/span><b>Dot to Dot <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">festival on Sunday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>FRIDAY<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\"><b>BUD\u2019s<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> been on our radar for a while now and with the build up to her debut EP \u2018<em>City Bird<\/em>\u2019, we\u2019re intoxicated as ever. Single \u2018<em>City Bird<\/em>\u2019 featuring <a href=\"\"><strong>ORIGIN ONE<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0is undeniably a summer jam &#8211; those hazy lyrics layered over a bouncy Reggae beat &#8211; I can taste the overcooked sausages from here. Hailing from Mansfield, Bud loves writing happy tunes (this is helped by her Reggae vibe &#8211; I mean c\u2019mon who can be sad listening to Reggae?!). Her voice has a distinct edge but with a warm tone &#8211; think <\/span><b>Corinne Bailey Rae<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> cross <\/span><b>Marina and the Diamonds<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> ish\u2026 Having recently supported Hip Hop rapper <\/span><b>Dizraeli<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, he commented that we\u2019ll be hearing Bud on the airways before no time and I couldn\u2019t agree more. Bud is joie de vivre, period.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You\u2019ll recognise them from Gypsy, Hip Hop band <\/span><a href=\"\"><b>UNKNOWN ERA<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but front vocalist <\/span><a href=\"\"><b>KANE ASHMORE<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and guitarist <\/span><b>JOSHUA CROFTS<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> also perform as a duo. A Hip Hop connoisseur in his own right, Kane infuses his beats with Gypsy, Balkan and Reggae influences. Matched by the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">adroitness<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of Joshua Crofts, there\u2019s great synergy between these two and you\u2019ll probably want to get up and join them (but don\u2019t because you probably can\u2019t sing &#8211; a fact I keep forgetting about myself).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\"><b>STUCK IN 2ND <\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are a Reggae Surf Dub 4-piece that show you don\u2019t need to go a 100mph through life. \u201cJust chill out and have a beer\u201d is probably their mantra with music created purely to put \u2018a smile on your face, dance in your step\u2019. From Long Eaton Stuck in 2nd\u2019s influences are sunshine and sand (errrmm not sure if you\u2019re getting much of that in Nottingham guys). Without a beach paradise to live on at least their music allows us to pretend (on that note, someone pass me my straw hat).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>National Video Game Arcade<br \/>\n<\/b>Doors: 8pm<br \/>\nTickets: \u00a35.50<\/p>\n<p><b>SATURDAY<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ooooh mamma this is going to be a good one. Prepare to feel those cultural vibrations as part of #NEAT16 with music showcasing influences from the Middle East, The Caribbean, Africa and Europe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Representing Notts Reggae, <\/span><b><a href=\"\">LISA HENDRICKS AND THE PROJECT-US BAND<\/a>\u00a0*<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0are a beacon of positive energy &#8211; I mean it just exudes from their pores. Having started in a gospel choir aged 15, Lisa has Soul in the bucket loads &#8211; actually scrap that, the truckloads. Their Reggae Soul music reflect Roots and culture and raise awareness of current issues facing the world. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Proving just how diverse Notts music can be, <\/span><a href=\"\"><b>MUHA<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> combine Indian Kathak rhythms with Cuban beats and Eastern European melodies (sounds interesting right). All masterful musicians themselves, <a href=\"\"><strong>MUHA<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0formed back in 2004 when vocalist Iryna met guitarist Dmitry. Now they are taking Slavonic-rooted music all over the country charming people with their folklore narratives and European flavour. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Possibly one of the happiest people we\u2019ve had in for a <\/span><b>Future Session<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"\"><b>BLESSING MAGORE<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> arrived in Notts from Zimbabwe aged 17. His years as a session musician for Zimbabwean artists gave him the skills to develop his own unique Afro-Funk\/Reggae fusion. Sometimes speaking in his mother tongue Shona, Blessing takes on the piano, guitar, marimba and mbira. Conscious world music from the heart of Notts &#8211; ahh we love it!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Jimi Hendrix of the Kora, <\/span><a href=\"\"><strong>JUST JUDE<\/strong><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"\"><strong>\u2019s<\/strong><\/a> dexterous playing on the West African instrument will transport you to another place. Make sure to hit up Anglo-Iranian inspired band <\/span><b>ARIAN<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> too. Their track \u2018Emshab\u2019 is wistfully beautiful (although I have no idea what they\u2019re singing about but hey). <\/span><a href=\"\"><b>I AM STARZ<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is also on the bill bringing an altogether different vibe with her Atmospheric Indie\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Nottingham Playhouse<br \/>\n<\/b>Doors: 7.30pm<br \/>\nTickets: \u00a38.50<\/p>\n<p><b>SUNDAY<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"\"><strong>Dot to Dot Festival<\/strong><\/a> is back and as always it is repping the local music vibe. We&#8217;ve featured two of the most prominent Notts-focussed stages in this little preview, but pretty much every stage has some local talent representing. Booyah.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Rough Trade<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\"><b>JAMIE MOON<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is first artist on the Rough Trade stage with his delicate blend of Acoustic\/Folk. Having released an EP \u2018<em>Oh, My Heart<\/em>\u2019 earlier this year, Jamie\u2019s scorched vocal sound has been pricking the ears of many <\/span><b>Ben Howard<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> listeners. Indie-Pop band <\/span><b><a href=\"\">DECO<\/a><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are next and will sure to bring the summer vibes (be it raining or not). Singles \u2018<em>Turn Around<\/em>\u2019 and \u2018<em>Tell Me Lies<\/em>\u2019 are sounding super tight and we love the synergy between these boys. Gritpop (I didn\u2019t even know that was a genre) <\/span><b><a href=\"\">MOWBECK<\/a><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have been working hard in the studio so we\u2019re hoping to hear some new toons from them. Art Rock 4-piece <\/span><b><a href=\"\">FIELD STUDIES<\/a> <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">capture my flight and fight emotions in one sound. Falsetto vocals with a heavy rock edge &#8211; what a texture! Exciting times as new EP \u2018<em>Rainmaking<\/em>\u2019 comes out on Friday &#8211; the LP artwork looks super cool too. With their amplified sound, Alternative-Rock band <\/span><a href=\"\"><b>LACEY<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are due to start their UK tour. You can catch them headlining Rock City in June or you can catch them for FREE on Sunday where it will be so intimate you\u2019ll smell the armpit of Bob next to you &#8211; it\u2019s a no brainer. Headlining is duo <\/span><a href=\"\"><b>APRIL TOWERS<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with all the Electro-Pop goodness you can scoff. New track \u2018<em>Silent Fever<\/em>\u2019 is a definite summer anthem so get those pretty Instagram filters out. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Rescue Rooms Bar<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Escape the hustling crowd to hear the calm before the storm on the <\/span><b>Acoustic Rooms<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> stage. Southwell\u2019s Knight in shining armour <\/span><b><a href=\"\">JOSEPH KNIGHT<\/a><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, (did I go too far with that one), is building up to his debut EP release show on the 18th June. His raw voice accompanied by simple guitar playing has earned him big respect from the scene. Another musician from Southwell, <\/span><b><a href=\"\">BILLIE<\/a><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will be enchanting the crowd with her ethereal sound. When you have a voice that makes the room go silent, you know you\u2019ve got the key ingredient. <\/span><a href=\"\"><b>JOSH KEMP<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a creative type that always manages to weave positivity into his songs. New track \u2018<em>Imaginary Friend<\/em>\u2019 has a montage music video from all of Josh\u2019s adventures in far-flung corners of the world (yeah not jealous at all Josh, not one bit). Also performing is <\/span><a href=\"\"><b>JOSH WHEATLEY<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Alternative-Pop is his playground although he\u2019s not afraid to experiment with new sounds &#8211; we\u2019re happy at least swingin round n round to those catchy hooks. A true architect of sound, <\/span><a href=\"\"><b>HOLLY TAYLOR-GAMBLE<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> shows us how one voice can be used as an instrument.
