If you\u2019re a little heartbroken that beaut beach in the square has gone to seaside heaven, not to worry, there\u2019s plenty of tingly music for ya this week, yep really tingly, weirdly tingly but oh so good tingly. From a couple of awesome album launches to Pop dreams at <a href=\"\"><strong>The Maze<\/strong><\/a> we have you covered peeps.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>FRIDAY <\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Friday in Hoodtown means <\/span><a href=\";theater\"><b>LAXMI<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> coming back to Notts and heading to <strong>The Maze<\/strong>, or as Lou Barnell, their lead singer, said \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the cockney granny returns to the motherland\u201d and we at the motherland welcome them back with open arms. Anyway, \u201cVoodo Pop\u201d bangers that are \u201cpolitically charged\u201d &#8211; that\u2019s what you can expect from \u2018em. Heavy bass is a big feature on their new stuff and if you mix that with their melodramatic voices it makes for some MEGA listening. Proper ear-gasm, which is 100% possible. We\u2019re sure.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Supporting <\/span><a href=\";theater\"><b>LAXMI <\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">at <strong>The Maze<\/strong> are <a href=\"\"><strong>CHERRY HEX AND THE DREAM CHURCH<\/strong><\/a><\/span><b>\u00a0&#8211; <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">dreamy Pop specialists.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With glock in hand they\u2019re<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">giving us the viiiibes with their 80\u2019s inspired tracks. Having met at NTU only last year these guys have already released some minimalist and moody bangers. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>The Maze<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Friday 16th September,<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Doors: 8pm<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Price: From \u00a35<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>FRIDAY<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Notts super-group, and our AOM for September, <\/span><a href=\";fref=ts\"><b>CHURCH OF THE COSMIC SKULL<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0are releasing their debut album at <a href=\";fref=ts\"><strong>Rescue Rooms<\/strong><\/a> on Friday. The \u201cnew religious movement\u201d seek to \u201cfree mankind from their material possessions\u201d. We\u2019re not sure if this is on the night so maybs don\u2019t take your new camera. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They also want to \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">unify all living beings into a singular cosmic whole\u201d, again not sure if this is on the night so be prepared for some right going ons. When they aren\u2019t trying to change the world, the seven piece band play some pretty wicked tunes with a 70\u2019s Rock\/Pop vibe. Combining guitar with the electric cello as well as bass and drums,\u00a0<\/span><a href=\";fref=ts\"><b>COTCS <\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">have their hands full never mind the hammond organ (which they also play, duh). Taking us to all these magical places musically it\u2019s kind of LOTR meets Freddy Mercury, maybe this is what they meant by freeing mankind? EPIC. So Epic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Crumpling Ghost<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from L town are supporting as well as <\/span><b>Prophets of Saturn<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from Leicester.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Rescue Rooms<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Friday 16th September,<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Doors: 730pm<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Price: From \u00a35<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>SATURDAY<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Saturday sees the <\/span><a href=\"\"><b>MANNEQUIN<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> EP \u201c<em>Nobody\u2019s Listening<\/em>\u201d launch party at <a href=\"\"><strong>Rough Trade<\/strong><\/a>. Often referred to as Alt-Rock these lads are so much more than that. So so, so much more. \u201cWE\u2019RE SWIMMMMING\u201d they declare on their latest track \u2018<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shark Eyes<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019, and that they are, swimming into some pretty goddamn awesome grungey guitar solos, and also swimming into our hearts (or not, hmm whatever). Their tunes are heavy with a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Psychedelic <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sort of Rock feely.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Support numero uno is\u00a0<strong><a href=\"\">BLUEBIRD<\/a>,<\/strong><\/span><b>\u00a0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">so bring your heavy side fringe and black eye liner cos these guys are self declared emos. Let\u2019s all relive our 2007 dreams and back comb our hair like crazy too. Enough about emo stereotypes anyway, this Punk Rock foursome have heartfelt moshing tunes for us, so be ready to clear some space on the floor. If that\u2019s not enticing you enough the boys are MASSIVE cheetos fans, who knows they may bring those slices of cheesy heaven with them too.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\"><b>I AM LONO <\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are also supporting, noting Bowie as a big influence it\u2019s definitely evident in their tunes, it\u2019s semi Electro Pop with a dash of heavenly moody vocals too. The tracks are more sway on the spot then skank but the heavy influence of the keyboard is intoxifying. The music is intense but in the best of ways, not intense like your girlfriends dad watching you eat your mash potato at dinner weird intense, intense like they transport you through space sort of intense.
