Photo Credit:<\/strong> Sam Nahirny<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Everyday we\u2019re hustlin\u2019\u2026 in the Notts music scene that is and if one thing is for absolute sure, it\u2019s that the<strong> Hockley Hustle<\/strong> was on incredible form this year! With over 300 Notts acts gracing the various stages of the hustle, here\u2019s a roundup of my personal journey round HH.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\"><b>THE MOST UGLY CHILD <\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">played to an extremely packed out <\/span><a href=\"\"><b>Angel Microbrewery<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the guys DELIVERED. As always they got the crowd going, foot tapping, singing and jiving, spilling my gin, to their <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Americana powerhouse songs. A vibrant six-piece band, hollering a mix of Americana and blending into a classical<strong> Willie Nelson<\/strong> old school Country sound. They were worth spilling my gin for. Plus they announced they have a new EP coming out next month so keep your eyes\/ears out for that too. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The<a href=\"\"><b> Jam Cafe<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was host to lotsa great music throughout the day, including <\/span><b><a href=\"\">THREE GIRL RHUMBA<\/a>, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">who put on a super energetic performance for the busy venue, the boys were on point again with their catchy alt tunes playing their newly released track \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pica<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d, as well as previewing for us their upcoming release \u201c&#8217;<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Budget Day<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d, which is due to release in a couple of weeks. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I was drawn to this next band cos of their name &#8211; <\/span><b><a href=\"\">PUTIN AND THE DOLPHIN<\/a>,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> can you see why? A raw intimate set at <\/span><a href=\"\"><b>Edin&#8217;s Kitchen<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> full of their own peaceful acoustic material was the perfect treat for Sunday afternoon. The ukulele and guitar wielding duo are pretty new to the Notts music scene having formed earlier this year, playing their own track \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An Invitation<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d which they dedicated to their neighbour Nuna\u2026 who they only ever met through a window\u2026 Seriously. Their music had me swaying on my stool, closing my eyes and taking me to another worldly dimension, but hey who knows that coulda been the alcohol too.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\"><b>LeftLions<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> stage at <\/span><a href=\"\"><b>Broadway <\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was full of awesomeness too.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the awesomeness bringers was <\/span><a href=\"\"><b>KETO<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Leah&#8217;s hypnotic and haunting vocals on \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Waiting on Dream<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">s\u201d cast a spell over the crowd turning us all into silent listeners. Except for the rowdy whoopers at the end of every song but that\u2019s totally normal for the hustle. The intense violin on \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nowhere<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d filled everyone in the room with hella emotion and hella goosebumps. And I didn\u2019t spill any of my gin this time. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\"><b>Hockley Arts Club <\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">played host to one of the most dapper men in Nottingham, <\/span><a href=\"\"><b>ADY SULEIMAN<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. EVERYONE in there was singing along with his infectious jams, from \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ain\u2019t that Beep<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d, to the mesmerising \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So Lost\u201d<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Hockley Arts was so busy for him, it was one in one out, with a queue of like 100 peeps! Madness. Throwing it back to \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">State of Mind<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d in his set too, crowd pleaser Ady powered through his sore throat and played an encore as the crowd wanted more from him. One of my personal favourite performers of the day, and now I have to compete with my Boyfs man crush on him too, thanks Ady.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\"><b>FISTS <\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">played at <\/span><a href=\";ref=br_tf&amp;qsefr=1\"><b>Rough Trade <\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to a crowd of enigmatic Punk headbangers, a sort of comeback show for them at the Hustle as they\u2019ve not played there since 2008! And they were welcomed back with a bang. Air guitar inspired tracks had the crowd mini moshing, and by that I mean, not breaking bones moshing. With heavy drum clambering and guitar solos in \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">6 5 Special<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d the crowd were going mental! <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I finished my night at <\/span><a href=\"\"><b>Bunkers Hill <\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to watch the epic self-proclaimed \u201chillbilly outlaw Folk\u201d band, <\/span><a href=\"\"><b>DH LAWRENCE AND THE VAUDEVILLE SKIFFLE SHOW <\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">who got the crowd involved from the get go. They<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">handed out tambourines and kazoos to everyone watching. Surprisingly the kazoo is one of the hardest instruments to play, for me anyway. A fiddle grooving and foot tapping set filled with an infectious jolly atmosphere all the way through, they were so good that a pirate was square dancing on the floor. Yup, a pirate. Amazing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Obviously, the Hustle is an enormous festival, this is just a brief review of the acts that I had the pleasure of seeing.
