The New Year&#8217;s Res\u2019 failed, bad decisions have been taken and mistakes made, and \u2018Dry January\u2019 somehow turned into drinking every day (it\u2019s okay, me too). For this, we prescribe a night at any, or all of these gigs by wonderful local artists.<\/p>\n<p><b>WEDNESDAY<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\"><b>THE VARLETTS<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are bloody everywhere at the moment it seems, with support slots all around NG1, but it\u2019s finally time for their headline show! They\u2019ve just released some new tunes, with the brooding \u2018<em>City of Sin\u2019<\/em> as well as \u2018<em>Accused of Effeminacy&#8217;<\/em>\u00a0which has some great guitar riffs, a certain<\/span><b> Libertines<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> vibe and some punk poetry sprinkled in the middle! You will be transported to the 00\u2019sas your ears are consumed by raw alternative rock noise, don\u2019t miss it!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brand new band <\/span><a href=\"\"><b>PLASMA TIGER<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are bringing themselves too. We really don\u2019t know what to expect. We think there\u2019s going to be funky, garagey vocals, <\/span><b>Oasis<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-like guitar lines and erratic rhythms, get excited for this listening experience! Oh yeah, and ya may recognise a certain beatboxing frontman&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maze regulars<\/span><a href=\"\"><b> THE RESCUE<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are bringing up the rear, transporting their Alt-Rock soundscape to Mansfield Roads favourite haunt! A husky voiced Ollie Slaney decorates the upbeat sounds of Charlie Harris, Owen Downs and Jake Rutt. They\u2019re sure to bring a show and the people of <\/span><b>The Maze <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">absolutely love \u2018em!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>The Maze<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wednesday 8th February<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Doors: 730pm<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Price: \u00a33 adv\/ \u00a34 OTD<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>FRIDAY<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\"><b>AMBER RUN<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> only just had their massive <\/span><a href=\"\"><b>Acoustic Rooms<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> shindig with all their friends but they couldn\u2019t stay away and are already back for a big old show at the legendary <\/span><a href=\"\"><b>Rock City<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">! With a new album bundled in their arms, they\u2019re ready to open up and show the world, and no place better to do it! The new album \u2018<em>For a Moment I Was Lost\u2019<\/em> is about hope, moving on and the price of suffering for art\u2026 it\u2019s probs gonna get real deep. It\u2019s sure to be a time machine of sounds as they reflect on earlier sounds, telling stories of recent, all whilst trying to evolve as naturally as possible. New single \u2018<em>Perfect<\/em>\u2019 has beautiful harmonies to a brooding bass line, sweet guitar licks to body shuffling breakdowns &#8211; if this song is any indication of the album, we\u2019re in for a treat.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gracing the stage alongside the Amber lads are <\/span><b>Island<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from London and <\/span><b>Meadowlarks<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from Bristol!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Rock City<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Friday 10th February<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Doors: 630pm<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Price: \u00a314.85 incl booking fee<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>SATURDAY<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Think that Valentine&#8217;s Day is dumb? Me too, and so do the <a href=\"\"><strong>Nottingham Trent University Music Society<\/strong><\/a>, so they\u2019re putting on an \u2018Alternative Valentine&#8217;s Party\u201d. There is even a singles table where you could find your soulmate, or have a laugh with other spinsters; either way, there\u2019s an ace soundtrack all night long!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hailing from Hucknall, <\/span><a href=\"\"><b>THE RUFFS<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will be toying your hearts tonight. With Gallagher-esque vocals, you can hear the angst and tumultuous, yet playful lyrics of \u2018Alligator\u2019 and other songs. They\u2019ve got new music on the cusp of coming out so it\u2019s looking like it\u2019ll be a whole new set list to previous gigs. They\u2019ve even graced the <\/span><b>Rock City<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> main stage! You\u2019ll want a beer in hand and a mate to sing along with for these guys. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\"><b>SAWYER <\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">will join the fun too with their beautiful ambient folk &#8211; imagine <\/span><b>Bears Den<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> but with these impossibly deep and <\/span><b>Leonard Cohen<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-like vocals. The pipes on these two are so beautifully different, with the deepest thickest of vocals contrasted with soulful, quavering harmonies. The latest release <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018Where the Yetis Speak\u2019<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is truly well put together; with moments so fragile then suddenly harsh drum lines that feel like a thumping headache that won\u2019t go. These two will really pull at your heartstrings. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And kicking the night off in all its unrequited tears and sadness is <\/span><a href=\"\"><b>SANJEE ANAND<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the king of Nottingham Trent Uni Music Society and expert Nott\u2019s gig-goer and gigger! He will bring you all matter of originals with incredible guitar skills. Expect some proper <\/span><b>Ed Sheeran<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> vibes. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Joining him is <\/span><a href=\"\"><b>LUKE PETER FOSTER<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">; having recently played <\/span><b>Sofar Nottingham<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, you must keep an eye on this guy cause he\u2019s gonna get biiiiiig! Like huge!
