It\u2019s you on a day when you look amazing, all of your jokes are hilarious and you find a fiver on the floor. It\u2019s a brownie covered in cookies with salted caramel sauce and no risk of diabetes. It\u2019s\u2026 ok, I\u2019m all out of metaphors. But, you get the drift &#8211; it\u2019s another awesome week in Nottingham for music. We\u2019ve got everyone from the number one fan of Crocs, to Giles Peterson\u2019s fav and even a blast from the 80s past.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>WEDNESDAY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"\"><strong>VANITY BOX<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0are at <strong>Rough Trade<\/strong> this Wednesday, which means we will also be at <strong>Rough Trade<\/strong> this Wednesday because these guys are wicked. They\u2019ve just released an album called \u2018Chance Would be a Fine Thing\u2019 which is filled with upbeat Pop Rock songs that make us both wanna start a mosh pit and tell our mums how much we love them. The video for their newest single \u2018No One Nowhere\u2019 has got a cool storyline to it and is filled with loads of local places to hang out,\u00a0too\u00a0&#8211; <\/span><a href=\"\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You\u2019ll probs recognise <a href=\"\"><strong>ONE GIANT CAUSEWAY<\/strong><\/a> from our New Music Podcast or from this year&#8217;s FSN Final. The Bridgefordians list some of the best in British Rock as their inspiration, including <strong>T<\/strong><strong>he Stereophonics<\/strong>, <strong>Blur<\/strong> and <strong>Noel Gallagher<\/strong>. You can hear these influences in their music, except with a distinct Nottingham edge (so, y\u2019know, better). <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"\"><strong>ROE GREEN<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0is bringing a mellow edge to the night, with some really thought-provoking lyrics, pretty harmonies and the occasional synth thrown in. His music makes us feel all relaxed and happy, a bit like a hug from your best mate after a boozy night in your local.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Maze<br \/>\n<\/strong>Wednesday 4th October<br \/>\nDoors: 7pm<br \/>\nEntry: Free<\/p>\n<p><strong>SATURDAY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"\"><strong>THE CHASE<\/strong><\/a> are launching their new EP, &#8216;The Odyssey,&#8217; at <strong>The Bodega<\/strong> on Saturday. If you close your eyes and listen to\u00a0<a href=\"\"><strong>THE CHASE<\/strong><\/a>, you\u2019ll most likely picture a bunch of Indie Rock n Rollers who have smashed a few TVs in their time between smoking cigars and releasing instant classics. Then, you\u2019d open your eyes and see that, actually, these lot are all about 20 and just have a sound well beyond their years. The vocals are catchy, the playing is tight.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"\"><strong>COZEN<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0will also be joining. One of the first things you\u2019ll learn about her is that she loves Crocs. I mean, really loves them. <a href=\"\"><strong>COZEN<\/strong><\/a> is responsible for 78% of Croc sales nationwide (probably). Described as \u2018a croc wearing sensation you don&#8217;t wanna miss\u2019, you\u2019ll most likely recognise her as <a href=\"\"><strong>SONDER<\/strong><\/a>, who did an awesome Future Session a while back, <a href=\"\">here<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span>Now she\u2019s back with a \u2018fresh start and new vibes\u2019. We haven\u2019t heard her new stuff but her voice has got that perfect combination of Blues and Rock n Roll that makes us want to BFF her immediately so we can start plotting world domination, one tune at a time.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Next to take the stage are <a href=\"\"><strong>THE MOCKING JAYS<\/strong><\/a>, an Indie five-piece\u00a0who\u00a0make sick Indie Pop tunes you can jam to. They\u2019ve got a really energetic sound that makes us wanna dance and dance and then sit a bit but then dance again. What I mean by that (not so) eloquent description is that their energy is pretty darned infectious so we\u2019ll see you lot on the dance floor! <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Imagine if <strong>Jamie T<\/strong> was kidnapped by aliens, taken for a spin around the galaxy and returned to earth as a guitar strumming, harmonica blowing singer songwriter from Nottingham. The result would be <a href=\"\"><b>DANIEL ISON<\/b><\/a>, who\u2019ll be opening the gig. Expect tunes with an Indie-Folk vibe, but with something a little extra you can\u2019t quite put your finger on (probs due to the alien influence).<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Bodega<br \/>\n<\/strong>Saturday 7th October<br \/>\nDoors: 7pm<br \/>\nEntry: \u00a33.30 adv<\/p>\n<p><strong>SUNDAY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Erry day we\u2019re (Hockley) Hustlin\u2019. Well, actually, just the one day. One banging day. Sunday, to be precise. Drop everything you\u2019re doing guys, clear your diary, fuck it &#8211; lie if you have to because you basically NEED to be around for this one. Yep, it\u2019s that time of year where Hockley goes all festival on us #proudnottsmoment. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>The festival is bloody massive &#8211; there are 27 stages and about 400 artists! With this in mind, we\u2019ve decided to loosely divide some of the day\u2019s highlights into Guitar, MOBO and Electronic music so that, y\u2019know, you don\u2019t spend the next 50 years reading (you do wanna actually GO to the festival, right?). We know you lot are all massive music heads who like their songs to come with nutritional value, so, before the genre police come knocking, we wanna stress that these are general divisions, with inspo taken from the BBC and how they programme their playlists (if it\u2019s good enough for <strong>Annie Mac<\/strong> and <strong>Mistajam<\/strong>, it\u2019s good enough for us amirite?).<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This one goes out to all the MOBO heads out there. So, it\u2019s the start of the day. You\u2019ve put on your freshest garms, you\u2019re feeling hyped and ready to listen to some of the best on the scene atm. In short, you\u2019re ready to do this thing. Enter <a href=\"\"><strong>HASHTAGOBI<\/strong><\/a>, playing at 1pm at <strong>I\u2019m Not From London<\/strong>\u2019s stage at T<strong>he Angel Microbrewery<\/strong>.\u00a0<a href=\"\"><strong>HASHTAGOBI<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s the ideal artist to start the day with upbeat, bouncy hip hop and witty, at times hilarious, observations about life as a young person in the 21st century #millenialproblems.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Feeling suitably gassed after Obi\u2019s set, we\u2019re continuing the party vibes with <\/span><a href=\"\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>TAYLA JAYDE<\/b><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who\u2019s playing at 6:10 at <strong>Edin\u2019s Kitchen<\/strong>, courtesy of <strong>Word Jam<\/strong>.\u00a0<a href=\"\"><b>TAYLA JAYDE<\/b><\/a>\u2019s vocals bring an RnB touch to a variety of influences, from your more classic RnB tunes to some DnB crossover tracks. Her song \u2018Dangerous\u2019, ft Shifty Spirit, is the kind of song you hear in a club that makes everybody suddenly jump up and shout \u2018this is my JAMMM\u2019 before descending into dancefloor madness &#8211; <\/span><a href=\"\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ok, we\u2019ve danced, we\u2019ve jumped around, and, quite frankly, we need a bit of a breather (we\u2019re not as young as we used to be). This is the perfect time to head over to <strong>Farmyard<\/strong> and <strong>Sounddhism<\/strong>\u2019s stage at <strong>Suede<\/strong> where, from 8pm, <strong>Giles Peterson<\/strong> fav <a href=\"\"><strong>YAZMIN LACEY<\/strong><\/a> will be making us feel all mellow and warm inside with soul music that\u2019s got a bit of a cosmic edge.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Playing at 9:30 at <strong>Market Bar<\/strong> is <a href=\"\"><strong>J LITTLES<\/strong><\/a>, brought to you by <strong>Acoustickle<\/strong> and <strong>Can\u2019t Stop Won\u2019t Stop<\/strong>.\u00a0<a href=\"\"><strong>J LITTLES<\/strong><\/a> makes Hip Hop that makes you wanna dance loads but also have deep and meaning convos with your mates about life. 10 points to anyone who manages both. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Who better to end a night of Nottingham bangers than <a href=\"\"><strong>HARLEIGHBLU<\/strong><\/a>, playing at the <strong>Confetti Live<\/strong> stage at the <strong>Bodega<\/strong> at 11pm.\u00a0<a href=\"\"><strong>HARLEIGHBLU<\/strong>\u2019s<\/a> become pretty huge over recent years and it\u2019s no wonder really &#8211; THAT voice is something unlike anything we\u2019ve ever heard before: Trip Hop meets Soul meets RnB meets Jazz meets that moment after a breakup when you\u2019re feeling empowered and ready to take on the world #owningit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Let\u2019s be honest, Guitar music in Nottingham is second to none. If acoustic strums and distorted electric guitar solos are what gets you going, you\u2019re in for a real treat this <strong>Hockley Hustle<\/strong>. Kicking off our highlights is <a href=\"\"><strong>MOLLIE RALPH<\/strong><\/a>, who\u2019s playing <strong>Bodega<\/strong> from 2:30. Mollie just did a Future Session with us too, so watch this space. She sings about politics, love and everything in between with catchy melodies. The perfect start to our <strong>Hockley Hustle<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Could we make a Guitar-based <strong>Hockley Hustle<\/strong> highlights list without <a href=\"\"><strong>BABE PUNCH<\/strong><\/a>? The answer is no, of course not. Lol. These lot are playing at <strong>Rough Trade<\/strong> at 4pm and will no doubt be making us all put two fingers up to the man whilst jumping up and down and spilling cider all over ourselves.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After all that moshing we\u2019re feeling ready to take on the world. We\u2019ll be heading over to <strong>Revolution<\/strong> at 5:45 for the <strong>BBC Introducing<\/strong> stage. \u2018Why?\u2019 we hear you ask. Because of <a href=\"\"><strong>VEGA BAY<\/strong><\/a>, obvs. Lead vocalist Sam has got a really unique voice and these lot have some really interesting textures and tones to their music that get our feet tapping as if we were some sort of tap dancing penguins living in the South Pole. Oh no, wait, that\u2019s Happy Feet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If we were Sims in a <strong>Hockley Hustle<\/strong> Sims special, our energy bars would be low after all that dancing and now would be the time to re-energize and replenish ourselves. That\u2019s why we\u2019re heading over to the <strong>Hockley Arts Club<\/strong> at 8:30 to watch <a href=\"\"><strong>SAWYER<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0on the <strong>Hockley Hustle<\/strong> stage.\u00a0<a href=\"\"><strong>SAWYER<\/strong><\/a> plays the guitar AND drums with some seriously bassy vocals that are so nourishing we\u2019re pretty sure his music counts as one of your five a day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finishing up our guitar-fuelled day are <a href=\"\"><strong>FIRE<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>(THE UNSTOPPABLE FORCE)<\/strong><\/a>, playing at <strong>the Angel Microbrewery<\/strong> at 11:30pm. Instead of making some awful dad joke about how these lot are an unstoppable force (snooze), we\u2019re gonna say that their music is really as unique as their name, with tunes like \u2018Whiplash Crocodile\u2019. Think heavy guitars, heavier drums and a load of sweaty moshers on a party bus to the Amazon. Sometimes you\u2019ve gotta go out with a bang, right?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last up in our Hockley musical journeys is for the beat making, Stealth going, Electronic music loving amongst you. First up is <a href=\"\"><strong>TWIN KIDD<\/strong><\/a>, playing at <strong>Jam Cafe<\/strong> at 9pm for <strong>Phlexx<\/strong>.<a href=\"\"><strong>TWIN KIDD<\/strong><\/a> combine some sick synths with Stef Williamson\u2019s eerie vocals and are basically awesome.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We\u2019re continuing the theme of atmospheric synths with <a href=\"\"><strong>SHELTER POINT<\/strong><\/a> next, who are playing at <strong>Hockley Arts Club<\/strong> at 9:30pm. <a href=\"\"><strong>SHELTER POINT<\/strong><\/a> make banging House music that\u2019s a bit <strong>Disclosure<\/strong> meets <strong>The xx<\/strong>, hanging out in Amsterdam and makes us wanna dance and cry at the same time (in a good way). <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also playing at 9:30 (so you\u2019ve got a tough choice to make here, soz) are the equally wicked <a href=\"\"><strong>CONGI<\/strong><\/a>. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The duo were a part of <strong>Giles Peterson<\/strong>\u2019s <strong>Future Bubblers<\/strong> project and mix Dubstep, Hip Hop, Soul, Grime with an electronic edge that makes your knees drop a few inches when dancing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Electronic music is bloody cool, but we need a slice of Pop to go with it. That\u2019s why we\u2019re finishing our night with none other than <a href=\"\"><strong>RONIKA<\/strong><\/a>, for some of the best in Electro Pop. Imagine if <strong>Madonna<\/strong> had a spirit twin from Notts. Yes, exactly. She\u2019s playing at the <strong>LeftLion<\/strong> stage at <strong>Broadway<\/strong> from 10pm and will be bringing all the disco-y synths and heavy snare drums to bring out the inner 80s kid in anyone.
