{"id":2400,"date":"2011-11-11T17:59:30","date_gmt":"2011-11-11T17:59:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nusic.org.uk\/wordpress\/?p=2400"},"modified":"2012-08-17T18:31:24","modified_gmt":"2012-08-17T17:31:24","slug":"fifth-nottingham-artist-sign-to-major","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nusic.org.uk\/wordpress\/fifth-nottingham-artist-sign-to-major\/","title":{"rendered":"FIFTH NOTTINGHAM ARTIST SIGNS TO MAJOR?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n<strong>Not quite Comrades but two Nottingham artists have got very close this month, so close that it brings up the subject of what counts as signing to a major label?<\/strong> Well for us, and these are the criteria by which we count <strong>NATALIE DUNCAN<\/strong>, <strong>SHIDE BOSS<\/strong>,<strong> DOG IS DEAD<\/strong> and <strong>JAKE BUGG<\/strong>  as having &#8216;crossed the finishing line&#8217;, it means:<br \/>\n<br \/>\n&#8211; One of the accepted major labels e.g Universal, Sony BMG, Warner and EMI.<br \/>\n&#8211; An album deal.<br \/>\n&#8211; A genuine signing to their rosta rather than the artist hiring them for distribution or something similar.<br \/>\n<br \/>\nFor a moment we thought a fifth Nottingham act of the year had signed to a major record label, not quite, more like the fourth and a half as it were. Up and coming Notts star, previous <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=gKAiU0-Lods\">Future Session<\/a> artist and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=d97_PCRBvK8\">Future Sound of Nottingham<\/a> finalist <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/Skiman-Official\/378191152880\">SKIMAN <\/a><\/strong>has signed his first &#8216;feature deal&#8217; with Sony. This means they have asked him to officially guest on another one of their artists tracks, it&#8217;s a bit like been asked for an official trial with Man Utd (sorry Forest or County!).<br \/>\n<br \/>\n<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/Skiman-Official\/378191152880\">SKIMAN <\/a><\/strong>said, &#8220;Really happy about the news yet still keeping my feet firmly on the ground with everything. There&#8217;s a long way to go yet before anything really comes together the way we are planning.&#8221;<br \/>\n<br \/>\nSounding quite like a Premiership footballer in the process.<br \/>\n<br \/>\nAlso making moves is <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/goughmusic\">LEE GOUGH<\/a> <\/strong>who the Nottingham Post report has signed a one single deal with Island\/ Dej Jam in the states, if Lee gets back to us we&#8217;ll let you know more, for now check him out with Zoe Kirk from the Post in the latest <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nottinghameveningpost.co.uk\/VIDEO-Live-8211-singer-songwriter-Lee-Gough\/story-13755381-detail\/story.html\">This Is Live<\/a> <\/strong>vid.<br \/>\n<br \/>\nSo neither artist has landed the big money deal yet. <strong>If sleeping with someone is the metaphorical equiv of actually signing an album deal with a major then this is the equivalent to a first date that&#8217;s gone really well and been followed by some pretty passionate snogging on the front porch<\/strong> before her angry Dad appears and tells ya to sling ya hook.<br \/>\n<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s great seeing more Nottingham talent taking major steps towards realising their musical dreams as well another injection of momentum into our vibrant New Music scene,<strong> we can&#8217;t even begin to imagine how massive 2012 is going to be, it&#8217;s shaping up to be absolutely huge!<\/strong><br \/>\n<br \/>\nIf you don&#8217;t believe us, believe <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/music\/2011\/sep\/29\/nottingham-music-scene\">The Guardian<\/a>.<br \/>\nvlr<br \/>\nx<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Not quite Comrades but two Nottingham artists have got very close this month, so close that it brings up the subject of what counts as signing to a major label?
