The last time I saw BRONTIDE, I was working behind the bar at Rescue Rooms. Strangers requesting drinks rudely interrupted my headbanging, so last night was my chance to relax with no disturbances. But there will be no relaxing. They play each song back to back, just as you’d listen to it on the CD and if you clap, in the little breaks that do occur, prepare yourself for receiving evils for even daring to ruin the composition. (I did this, woops).

No one was scared to get close to the stage like they usually are, in fact people took the chance to be so close to such talented musicians (ex and current members of La Roux and iwasacubscout).

Songs like ‘Limehouse Ink’ are what the loop pedal was invented for and the guitar in ‘Jura’, my personal favourite, romantically sparks off that little part of your brain that makes you feel warm and fuzzy.

Last night wasn’t just a gig, it was an experience. Watching such a tight band live takes you to a whole different world and Brontide can’t get much tighter.

If you don’t already have their debut ‘Sans Souci’, get it. Now.

Yours In Love Of New Music,
Danielle
