As another seven days passes, we’ve got another awesome week for the Nottingham music scene. This week sees another headline Bodega show, a proper chilled out night of live music, and a day packed full of uplifting soulful vibes.
JOY MUMFORD will be playing her headline Bodega show this Thursday and it’s shaping up to be something really special.
Joy has had quite the year. After winning the Future Sound of Nottingham final at Rock City, she went on to open the biggest stage in Notts at Splendour Festival and got loads of ace reviews. Her Soulful-Folk tunes are as equally catchy as they are intricate, and it’s no wonder she’s a favourite on the local scene. She’s got plenty of new tunes up her sleeve, and we reckon she’s gonna put on a performance that we’ll remember for a very long time.
Supporting Joy we have BETH FRISBY, a lady who played this same stage for her own headline show just a few weeks ago. We popped down and were blown away by how incredible Beth’s Dark-Pop translated live. Her voice is beautifully haunting, and she puts on one hell of a show. Make sure you check out her awesome EP “Wandering Eyes” before the show so you get a feel of what to expect!
Also supporting are the beautiful Folk sounds of JAMIE MOON. Another fella whose brought an incredible EP this year. His “Glasshouse” EP is full of delicate soft Acoustic numbers that all tug at the heartstrings. Jame’s live performances tend to stun the crowd into silence, so if you’re after a natter, stay downstairs, cos otherwise you’ll be ruining a truly stunning performance.
Over at Bunkers Hill on Friday you can expect to find three awesome varied acts to ease you into the weekend nicely.
ROXY MAY will be kicking things off with her uplifting Piano Pop. Roxy makes the kind of music that puts a smile on your face, and gives you a little chuckle when you listen to the lyrics. It’s happy Pop, and the kind of uplifting music we need more of in our lives. We guarantee if you’ve had a naff week at work, she’ll cheer you right up!
Next up we’ll have the lovely soft Folk sounds of ANWYN WILLIAMS. Often compared to the legend that is Joni Mitchell, you’ll definitely hear the influence. With a beautiful tone to her voice and honest, classic songwriting, Anwyn takes the classic Folk formula, adds a bit of a Country twang, and makes something that sounds incredibly familiar, but fresh and exciting at the same time.
Rounding the night off we have the chilled out sounds of ALTA PUEBLO. They’re a band that describe their genre on Facebook as “European Cafe Culture.” Now, in theory, that shouldn’t make sense. But once you give these guys a listen, you kind of understand what they mean. A mix of Acoustic guitars, harmonies and chilled percussion make for tunes that transport you to the middle of France with a double espresso. Just give ‘em a listen, you’ll get what I mean.. I take a Caramel Latte if you’re asking…
On Saturday we have the launch of Nottingham’s Original Music Art & Dance Org, or, NOMAD for short, at Sneinton Maket, which sees loads of ace Nottingham acts come together for a wicked community event.
Kicking things off we’ll have the frontman of SATNAM’S TASH, Pete, who will be bringing some uplifting Acoustic tunes with some of the most entertaining lyrics we’ve heard in ages. MIZZRED will be bringing some fresh Notts Hip-Hop, with a rapid flow and a knack for some ridiculously catchy melodies too, Mizz sums up everything that’s great about Notts Hip-Hop scene.
KRIPTIK & ELJAY will be bringing their unique duo take on Grime. With the catchy melodies of dancehall mixes with the furious flow of dirty grime, these two bring something completely different to the proceedings. JOANNE LOVATT will then take to the stage to deliver some of her incredibly soulful Acoustic solo tunes. EMILY FRANKLIN will also be providing some incredibly beautiful Acoustic numbers, with one of the most powerful voices we’ve heard in ages – prepare to be stunned into silence!
STARZ will bring a touch of her Atmoshpheric Indie to the evening which really is something special. With a beautiful tone to her voice, and some lovely little songs too, you won’t believe this girl is only fifteen years old! THE HARGREAVES bring some pure Pop to the evening with some absolutely gorgeous harmonies and uplifting melodies, before that familiar lass ROBYN HUGHES-JONES takes to the stage with her soulful little numbers, known for having one of the most unique voices the city has ever heard, we’re sure she’ll blow you away.
MONIQUE HENRY carries on the soulful vibes with some classic style R&B with hints of some absolute Soul legends. With an incredibly powerful voice, Monique reminds us of everything we loved about 90s R&B. BLESSING MAGORE will then take to the stage with his incredibly uplifting Afro-Funk, which believe us when we say this, will have you dancing all over the place and feeling the lurrvee. Last time we saw ‘em, the crowd burst into a choreographed dance routine, so be prepared for a right good time.
Finally, rounding everything off we have RAM1, backed by THE ITES BAND. Two absolute Notts legends in their own rights, they’ll be bringing the sunny Reggae vibes that’ll have us clinging onto this little bit of sun we’ve got left.
Can I get a “yeah man?”
Yours in Love of New Music,
