We’re the first to rant when we’re not happy with the levels of support from our established local media outlets, so we try and karmically balance things out by acknowledging any positive, forward thinking innovations. Credit where it’s due, metaphorical hats off, we’re loving this new move by BBC Radio Nottingham – local artists on their daytime playlist!

Evolving since April a ‘dedicated local slot has been added to the playlist‘, should you have been listening recently yourself this explains why you have heard the likes of JAKE BUGG and NINA SMITH on daytime radio. And it’s not just for one week, local artists securing this slot get a FORNIGHT on the BBC Radio Nottingham playlist.

The BBC’s Dean Jackson (who picks the track) commented further, “this isn’t a ‘lip service’ exercise. The local act goes onto maximum rotation on the playlist; the same as Take That and Cee-Lo Green“. Get to the back Barlow, the Notts Crew are in town!

We passionately believe in the importance of media exposure in the early fledging days of a musical career, media exposure oxygenates your talent and so this is a great step forward, but not just on the exposure vibe. Combined with the regional reach across the East Midlands of The Beat (the BBC Introducing Show for Nottingham) this represents a great chance for local musicians to generate some decent cash from PRS (fees for being played on the radio).

All in all sending your music into the BBC Introducing Uploader now offers you the chance to get daytime exposure on BBC Nottingham, regional exposure via The Beat and to earn money for being played on the radio, what exactly are you waiting for?! Spread the word…

PS If you are a Nottingham urban artist its always worth sending a demo to community station KEMET who also play local artists during the day (reaching across the whole city and beyond).
