Ey up,

Our next Nusic Academy Workshop, in association with PRS For Music Foundation, is all about Funding Your Music – and it includes speakers that want to give you money. Yes – give YOU money for your music.

WORKSHOP – You know what these are: several music industry experts share their advice and wisdom, you take a seat and soak it all up. Mostly led by your questions, the Workshop sees industry professionals share all their wisdom, and you get the chance to speak to ’em afterwards. The speakers for this Workshop are…

JOE FRANKLAND – Joe is Senior Grants and Programmes Manager at PRS for Music Foundation, the UK’s leading funder of new music across all genres. This is your chance to learn from, and even chat to, one of the most connected people in the ‘giving cash to musicians’ world.

ELLIE MOORE – Ellie is Creative Programme Officer at Help Musicians UK, the country’s leading independent music charity. HMUK have a number of grant programmes including their ‘Emerging Artist Fund’ which offers between £2000 and £5000 per artist.

RONIKA – Ronika is an artist and producer originally hailing from Nottingham, loved by The Guardian, NME and The Quietus. She has successfully applied for grants from PRS for Music Foundation as well as the BBC – she’ll be sharing her experiences with funding.

DARREN BLAIR –  Darren is a music entrepreneur who’s learned from the best, having graduated from an Apprenticeship with I’m Not From London. Darren promotes, manages and hustles. Artists he works with include UNKNOWN ERA as well as MOTORMOUF, who he recently got to Italy after raising £500 in 24 hours to fund the trip.

Come the end of the Workshop, there will be one of our famous Spread The Love sessions. Which is basically like speed-dating for musicians. You put your hand up and say you need something (new band member, producer, manager, video director etc etc) and then, the peeps that do what you need raise there hands. Then you make beautiful (metaphorical) musical babies.

MUSICIANS ADVICE FAIR – A freshers fair, for musicians. There’ll be loads of musician helping entities setting up stall before and after the workshop. You can go up to ’em, find out what they’re about, have a bit of a chat, and hopefully walk away with plenty of wisdom and knowledge of what you’re gonna do when you get home.

Entities confirmed so far: BBC Introducing, County Youth Arts, DHP Local Team, Nottingham Music Hub, Notts TV, Nusic, The Maze, YMCA

As with all Nusic Academy events, it is entirely open to the public! Yup, you, your sister, your bandmate, your pet tortoise (okay, maybe not your pet tortoise), you get the picture. Loads of free music advice, for free. Did we mention it’s free?

Make sure you hop on the Eventbrite ASAP to get your tickets. This is all part of the Academy part of Nusic, which aims to give musicians advice at the start of their career. Previous workshop videos and resources can be found HERE.

And spread the love. Get your musician mates down too. It’s the kind of love spreading your mates will actually appreciate.
