SAM POTTS – Head of Radio at Columbia (Sony BMG)

SAM POTTS is currently head of radio promotions at Columbia Records. Having attended Edinburgh University and graduated with a MA Hons in business management, SAM is in the know on music promotion, music media and how the music business is generally run.

DOM GOURLAYDrowned In Sound

One of the judges for this year’s Future Sound of Nottingham Final competition will be one of the guest speakers. DOM GOURLAY, a music journalist, works for Drowned In Sound. Drowned in Sound started up a record label 9 years, releasing records for the likes of Kaiser Chiefs, Bat for Lashes and more. Drowned in Sound also puts on gigs. If you are a budding musician or interested in music journalism, it’s worth taking note on DOM GOURLAY’s words of wisdom.

WILL GILGRASS – Somethin’ Else/ BBC 6Music

WILL GILGRASS is currently a freelance writer and content producer at Somethin’ Else, working on projects for BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music and The BRIT Awards. WILL GILGRASS presents a weekly radio show on Roundhouse Radio and has written for well-known publications – NME, The Guardian, Nottingham Post, BBC and more.

THE INVISIBLE ORCHESTRA and some special local bands will be taking over The Nottingham Arts Theatre this Saturday! One not to be missed!

INVISIBLE ORCHESTRA – A 28 piece orchestra band set to mindblow the whole Arts Theatre! Infused with soul and passion for composition, INVISIBLE ORCHESTRA is a band that gives you a taste of dirty funk, Arabic punk and classical music. Incredible brass sections including Saxophones, Tuba, Trombones, Trumpets and Cornets. A string Quartet and a double bass and more. INVISIBLE ORCHESTRA delivers and excels. With soulful singer HARLEIGHBLU also performing, you will not be disappointed by one of the most innovative musical projects ever undertaken in Nottingham! Respect to Orchestra leader James Waring for making this all happen.

ROYAL GALA BAND – If variety is what you’re after then ROYAL GALA will provide the goods. This multi-genre musical extravaganze will fuse Break Beat, Latin Electronica and much more throughout their performance. The perfect warm-up for the TIO, this nine piece band will funk the Arts Theatre to its foundations.

SABAR SOUNDSYSTEM – Also taking to the stage will be SABAR SOUNDSYSTEM. They are a percussion band that puts all their focus and energy into African, Brazilian and Cuban flavoured performances. Their hits on the drums are so powerful that they don’t need a PA system or added effects as they play completely acoustic!

BRANCH OUT FESTIVAL ALL DAYER

Nottingham’s newest Festival is finally here! Marking the end of what has been a hugely successful and celebratory month for Nottingham, Branch Out Festival is the icing on the cake, a chance to catch the ‘next wave’ before they make it massive JAKE BUGG style. No matter what your flavour of music is, it’s guaranteed Branch Out Festival will satisfy all. 7 Venues. Over 50 musicians. 28th October. All free. MAHOOSIVE!

BROADWAY

Knitted into the centre of Nottingham’s cultural scene, it’s impossible to think of a more fitting venue to play host to our chilled back acoustic scene. Prepare yourself to be captivated by bands YUNIOSHI and HHYMN, have heartstrings tugged at by HANNAH HEARTSHAPE and LOUIS SCOTT and to be in awe of acoustic sensations FRANKIE RUDOLF and FRAZER LOWRIE. Top this off with performances from ADAM PETER SMITH, RYAN THOMAS, ELIAS DIAMANTIS, MARC REEVES, NICK JONAH DAVIS and JOE DANKS and there you have it; Branchout’s remedy for stressed souls.

MALT CROSS

It’s all folked up at The Malt Cross. Some of Nottingham’s most unique bands and solo acts will come together at one of the city’s most celebrated venues creating a gloriously diverse lineup for your gigging pleasure. Prepare to be wowed by the ever enthralling INJURED BIRDS, foot-stomping fun from WILL JEFFREY and CHRIS MCDONALD and simply amazing tunes from DELTA SUN, WE ARE AVENGERS, ANGELS IN THE ARCHITECTURE and CECILLE GREY.

STEALTH (Downstairs)

If fancy getting down and dirty then head on over to the downstairs bit at Stealth where some of our best indie acts will be storming the stage. Expect killer riffs, soaring melodies and big-ass bass with acts KAGOULE, KAPPA GAMMA, BOOTS BOOKLOVERS, FRESH EYES FOR THE DEAD GUY, GREY HAIRS, I AM LONO, SLEAFORD MODS,PILGRIM FATHERS, and TRICOLOUR SUN. It’s gonna get scuzzy.

THE CONTEMPORARY – BLACK OUT

This incredible venue will be providing a trully unique experience inspired by a secret live act. Want to know who it is? You’ll just have to turn up!

STEALTH (Upstairs)

Taking over the upstairs floor of Stealth, will be a combo of MC’s and rappers. Warning! Things might get a bit messy. Urban Takeover in force!The energy on the upstairs floor of Stealth is going to be absolutely incredible. From MC’s to Rappers and DJ’s to free-stylists. Get ready to be blown away by some of Nottingham’s finest urban poets. Going in hard with the one and only KARIZMA, your man TOO TONE and JAH DIGGA, the real WARIKO, Joe Buhdha managed JAGA-NAUT and VANDAL SAVAGE rocking with the mic. Future Session Rapper DLOWZ will be taking stage as well as rappers CAPPO,DELO AND FIF NOVA. It’s all happening under one roof.

Kemet Fm’s very own MS TEMPZ plus THE ELEMENTZ Productions will be stepping up the vibe.

ROCK CITY BASEMENT

Things are going to get cranky down in the basement of Rock City. CAPTAIN DANGEROUS performing wild, catchy melodies topped with 80’s style Synth from PRACTICAL LOVERS, grunge metal from THE SMEARS infused with some skanky raga Gypsy style HALLOUMINATI. Raggae Dub droppers BREADCHASERS, epic theatrical slashers THE BARNUM MESERVE and Wireless Festival performers THE AFTERDARK MOVEMENT will be taking stage to deliver next to nothing else.

ANTENNA

The stage at Antenna will be filled with an aura of talent. Soul shaking …
Kicking off with the feel good vibe, Hip hop jazz singer ADY SULEIMAN, the awesome Peace Mix Winner GEORGIE ROSE, lusciously velvet vocal singer guitarist NINA SMITH. Keeping you entertained with ridiculously catchy guitar riffs is acoustic singer SAINT RAYMOND and Soul oozer HARLEIGHBLU provides the sugar in the tea.
