Ey up, ducks. So, Halloween’s around the corner. What kind of music do mummies listen to? …Wrap. Ok, soz guys, that was awful. We take it back. Anyway, between all the face paint, fake blood and trick or treating (we know we’re too old now, but FREE SWEETS. C’mon), there’s a wicked selection of Notts music this week. Wicked enough to awaken the ears of the living dead. Probably. Expect the musical equivalent of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, music that makes you feel like you’re in a black and white movie and a guest appearance from Michael Cera.

THURSDAY

As Black History Month draws to an end, Cultural Vibrations are bringing this music special and celebrating with a wicked selection of MOBO. Talk about going out with a bang(er). See what we did there? Ey? Ey?

Headlining this impressive lineup is RAMONE WILLIAMS, who makes amazing, acoustic reggae music that makes you stop whatever you’re doing immediately and pay attention to his sweet voice and thoughtful lyrics. Check out his amazing performance of ‘Rebel Music’ here.

NARTZ will being there playing his blend of Hip Hop, Grime and Trap. NARTZ has got a flow that sits somewhere in between party-hype and serious-hype. So, either way, it’ll get you hyped and ready for a night of skankin’. Hennessy not mandatory but recommended.

CHAI LARDEN and BEN HIBBERT are adding a soulful, bluesy edge to the lineup. Chai’s voice is like something from another era and mixed with Ben’s catchy, on-point acoustic guitar strumming this duo have got us feeling all the feels and then some.

I AM STARZ describes her music as being ‘Atmospheric’. It’s easy to see why. Her music sounds to us a bit like Sampha meets Jorja Smith in space after the sesh. Strap in for a cosmic music experience.

Taking us on a journey through musical past is HANNAH HEARTSHAPE. There’s a certain richness to the tone of Hannah’s voice that makes listening a luxury experience. When I listen and close my eyes, it makes me feel as though I were in a black and white film, listening to Etta James whilst dressed in diamonds and a fur coat.

Switching it up is GARTON, who’ll be bringing us all back from our music-induced, trance-like states with some Hip Hop bangers that will get all our heads bopping like a musical can of Red Bull and remind us we’re here for a celebration!

THURSDAY

The second edition of Hellcats is here, this time with a Punk-themed, Halloween special. Obviously, then, BABE PUNCH will be making an appearance (can’t have a punk night in Notts without ‘em, amirite?), and will be singing songs that send a strong political message whilst making us jump around like a bunch of costumed-mentalists.

THE SHRIVES make the kind of British Indie-Rock music that make us feel like we’re in our local having a dance and a chat about life over fags and ales.

THE VARLETTS may have moved up to Leeds but they couldn’t stay away from Notts for long, blessing us with their raucous rock anthems.

SATURDAY

The Malt Cross is turning 140 years old this October (say what?!). To celebrate the big 1-4-0, they’re throwing a massive weekend festival (with the live music on the Saturday) and we’re all invited. Cheers guys.

SAWYER will be playing and bringing his dreamy, serene sound. His music is like the marshmallow of the music world and makes us feel all hazy and peaceful like we were in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs the music edition.

Also joining the lineup is ROE GREEN, whose music has got a certain shy charm to it that makes it seem as though it should feature in films that star Michael Cera. #Juno2anyone?

Thomas Truax will also be playing on Saturday and there will be DJs on Friday Night.
