Nottingham music lovers, welcome to your weekly fix of gigs. We have three cracking nights to choose from here so make sure you are there. You square.

GIG ONE

Notts in a Nutshell presents… THE FREEFALL + THEM BALLOONS + NO EMPIRE + ELM TREE ROW + BRUCE MCULLEN at The Maze on Monday 25th.

THE FREEFALL sure knows how to entice their audience. Emotional lyrics, twinned with beautiful vocal harmonies is what is laid on the cards. Simulating great indie melodies/rhythm and delivering a strong live performance. Be prepared to rock along and loosen up.THE FREEFALL will most probably get you all reciting their catchy lyrics!

Feeling in the mood for some good clean fun? Let ‘THEM BALLOONS’ blow you way. Easy listening songs, synced beautifully with a feel good vibe. Having started from playing in school performances to now performing at festivals, ‘THEM BALLOONS’ has taken off on a flying start. Their performance is sure to be a banging start to your evening! We apologise for the puns.

NO EMPIRE are a fiery four piece who will rock the house. The Empire is reining high! They sure pride themselves in having a good time whilst they play their music which is the way it should be! If you are up for good times as well, then satisfy your rock cravings by immersing yourself in their self-expressing music.

ELM TREE ROW will bring to the table soothing vocals, beautiful ukulele instrumentals and a whole lot of folk-iness !! A lot of folk driven melodies. ELM TREE ROW ‘showcases their ear for melody, emotive and musicianship’. Their emotional lyrics adds lots of colour and texture to their folkness. One minute, you’ll be thinking of lullabies and the next, you’ll be dancing to the strummy pattern of the good ol ukulele. Folking Hell this sounds good.

GIG TWO

Bringing you a wealth of Nottingham culture on 28th June all in the heart of one of Nottingham’s most unique gig venues The Bodega, UNDER THE TREE is the perfect event to sink into a selection of the finest performers, poets, beatboxers and everything else inbetween. For the bargain price of 3 quid this is going to be one hell of a night!

ONE HOT SLICE – 7.15.

Kicking off the night and setting the tone are bluesy four-piece ONE HOT SLICE. Vocals from frontman Mikie Howard range from subtly delicate to powerful and intense, with slick lyrics and tight instrumentals. The perfect way to begin a night of folksy antics!

LISA DE’VILLE – 7.30.

With comparisons to the likes of folk heroes and heroines JEFF BUCKLEYand JONI MITCHELL, LISA DE’VILLE‘s brooding melodies and romanticised lyrics are a beautiful combination and a dark force to be reckoned with.

RED BEAR – 8.20.

RED BEAR is the solo project of Adam Clark, aka lead singer of CAPTAIN DANGEROUS. Drawing on the bristling energy and richness of sound that CAPTAIN DANGEROUS embody by the bucket-load, RED BEAR plans to take his own brand of ‘Forest pop’ to the stage; complete with a mix of melodic piano and rhythmic guitar this performance will enchant you from beginning to end.

DEB HAYES + DOM LEE – 8.45

As well as producing beautiful original songs, these two blew the crowd away at the UNDER THE TREE launch night with covers of popular classics. Perfect way to continue the warm-up!

ADAM PETER SMITH – 9.00.

ADAM PETER SMITH is ‘an acoustic artist with a big sound.’ Check out our Future Session Here.

LEE TABIX – 9.30.

A regular at local venues The Golden Fleece and The Maze, grungy beatboxer LEE TABIX is set to blow your mind with his incredible array of vocal capabilities. Having stormed Acoustic Rooms at the Rescue Rooms last week with clever modern mashups, LEE TABIX isn’t afraid to work up a crowd and you’ll no doubt be incapable of standing still to this pro’s infectious beats.

FRAZER LOWRIE – 10.00.

Steadily climbing his way up the gig ladder, FRAZER LOWRIE is making a name for himself on the Notts acoustic scene with his give-it-all-or-nothing approach to performing, proving that for an electrifying set all you need is a bit of gusto (although a powerful voice and effortless charisma obviously help). If you haven’t heard this guy before check him out – his catchy upbeat tracks are bound to win you over! Our first attempt at a Future Session went a little bit tits up, so look forward to round two coming to a screen near you!

WILL JEFFERY – 10.45.

If you like your ready-made folk served with dollops of ‘smokey shambolic vocals’, then verteran gigger WILL JEFFERY is the order of the day for you. Backed by his backing band THE WILD GENTRY, Jeffery’s live performances are a sight to behold and a treat to the ears.

GEORGIE ROSE – 11.00.

Having stunned many a crowd into awed silence recently with her beautiful LAURA MARLING-esque vocals and slick guitar skills, GEORGIE ROSE is steadily making her voice heard on the Notts acoustic scene with regular appearances at gig hotspots The Maze and Acoustic Rooms. At only 17, this talented folk songstress may be young but embodies a wealth of talent that is exquisitely executed on stage. Watch her Future Session HERE.

GIG THREE

On June 30th, our lad KURT MARTINEZ returns to Rescue Rooms to play his only home show this summer. Having been described as ‘electro’s answer to Mcfly’, his synth-pop and dance-floor friendly tunes will raise your spirits and get you groovin’. Blending all the fun and energy of power-pop with the beats of electro mark KURT MARTINEZ is something special, and following the release of his acclaimed debut album ‘The Idiot’s Guide to Breaking Hearts’ last year and his triumphant set at 2011’s Future Sound of Nottingham final, it seems the sky’s the limit for 2012.

To further the hype of this gig, support comes from the charismatic SAINT RAYMOND. Just one man, his guitar and bags of talent, SAINT RAYMOND’s acoustic indie pop is simply compelling.

So if electro pop rock and silky vocals are your kind of thang, then bop on down to the Rescue Rooms on the 30th, two cracking artists for the low low low price of £5.
