ATTENTION NOTTINGHAM MUSIC LOVERS! Here are your three essential gigs for this week…

GIG ONE

The monthly WIRE & WOOL at THE ALLEYCAFE on Thursday 2nd of February looks to be all that we’ve come to expect of it and more.

In a night that promises to bring electric sounds and techno beats ADAM PETER SMITH kicks off the event with his harmonious voice. Fans of NEWTON FAULKNER and PAOLO NUTINI will be blown away by a voice which is popping up all across the area.

Whether you’ve listened to Nottingham’s hillbilly funk band GRAIN or not, it’s safe to say that former member MR Y should not be missed – if only because he’s taken time out of his Swedish goat-herding career especially for this night!

He may only be one man but he can make a whole spectrum of sounds. RAINBOW DOWN is one of Nottingham’s most eclectic artists with a range of genres just as diverse as the night itself.

The final Nottingham act to step up will be JUNKIE KUT. His extreme speedcore techno is definitely going to keep the crowd alive, and if that doesn’t shake you to your very core then his hardcore punk rock crossovers will. With an appetite for all sorts of sounds the ALLEYCAFE is the place to be on Thursday night.

DOORS: 8.30PM

GIG TWO

Typically we’ve not mentioned THE OLD ANGEL INN for a few weeks now, then two great gigs come at once! Packed full of juicy Nottingham talent, the first gig on Friday 3rd of February has got something for everyone.

SKULLFUNK’S blend of groovy metal was built to get you moving. Your body will be involuntarily convulsing from the funk bass coupled with the heavy guitar rhythms, and the powerful vocals of GAVIN CRAYSMITH make SKULLFUNK a new band to keep a very close eye on.

For anyone who spent hours having flute lessons at school, listening to the guitarists and drummers talking of how their next band would conquer the world, come along and see TIMESTEALERS’ flautist JESSICA RUBIO prove that the flute is the icing on the cake. Everyone band should have one. If you have no such flute-based angst then come along anyway and experience the magical TIMESTEALERS gypsy-latin pop.

When you listen to OUR LAST CONFESSION you may find yourself saying, “they sound like…” followed moments later by, “oh and like…”. Don’t be afraid, you’ve not gone insane. OUR LAST CONFESSION may have been influenced by a variety of other bands but the result is a top class musical experience that may very well one day lead to, “they sound like OUR LAST CONFESSION”.

Let’s face it, it couldn’t be much more cold and dark outside so step into the OLD ANGEL and warm up to ‘Hell’s house band’ that is TRIOXIN CHERRY. The trio are making big waves with their punk surf rock ‘n’ roll sound. With female vocals that will haunt you (in a good way) and an atmosphere that the OLD ANGEL was made for, the night’s musical exploits are set for a fantastic crescendo.

DOORS: 7.30PM
TICKETS: £2

GIG THREE

A trio of Nottingham’s very own are supporting (or surrounding!) OUR TIME DOWN here at THE OLD ANGEL INN’S post-hardcore night on Saturday 4th of February.

FRESH EYES FOR THE DEAD GUY bring their punk sounds to the OLD ANGEL. The quartet recently blogged the answer to an age old question of why they so frequently shed their shirts mid-set, it’s all about comfort they say. Aside from the possibility of seeing some sweaty naked man flesh, they’re also hinting at throwing out some new tracks. A must see!

THANKS, ALASKA! certainly don’t share the serenity of their namesake state, but they possess just as many natural resources. Their raw pop punk talents will be right at home at the OLD ANGEL. Look out for an EP in the summer months.

New material is also expected from WITHOUT MAPS who grace the stage for the first time since making personnel changes – as if you didn’t already have enough reasons to get down to the OLD ANGEL this Saturday!

DOORS: 7.30PM
TICKETS: £4 ADVANCE or £5 DOOR

Yours in Love of New Music,
