Omg, it’s already (practically) November. Is it just me or is this year bolting past at lightning speed? Well, y’know what they say? Time flies when you’re having musical fun. Ok, they don’t say that, but they should. Another week in Notts = another banging week for music and this is no exception. We’re taking a musical berocca, going on a journey to the American South and I’m up-ing the terrible joke factor to about 95%.

THURSDAY

Notts Factor 2017 is here! The selection of artists this year is wicked – a real showcase of the diverse talent this city has to offer. And it’s free! What more could we ask for?

VEGA BAY are making an appearance and bringing the musical feel-good factor with them. If VEGA BAY’s music were a scene in a film it’d be you driving in the countryside with the roof down, the wind blowing in your hair, feeling great about life.

WHISKY STAIN are also playing. I know, right- coolest band name ever?! The band make guitar driven, Queen of the Stone Age-esque tunes that make us both wanna start a mosh pit and kick back with a whiskey.

You might remember KELSEY SHAW from the Future Session we did with her a while back (which you can see here). She’s back with those hauntingly beautiful vocals and thoughtful lyrics, making us feel all the feels.

THE DANDYLIONS will be playing their light-hearted, fun Glam Rock tunes such as ‘Pick & Mix’, that makes us wanna have a dance and a snack at the same time. Thankfully, they provide the snacks too.

Music is a cathartic experience for a lot of us. So, if you’re ever having a bad day, I recommend giving PHIDIZZ a listen and letting out all of your rage through his tense, bouncy bars and hilariously named tunes such as ‘Crudclart’. We’re pheeling dizz.

CHAI LARDEN will be performing with the talented guitarist and singer-songwriter BEN HIBBERT. Chai’s voice has a distinct jazzy tone that reminds me a bit of Amy Winehouse and teamed with Ben’s catchy riffs this duo have got our heads bopping.

THE SEVEN O’CLOCK GUN make Country-inspired, Bluesy, Folksy guitar music that makes me feel like I should be listening in Southern America on a road trip with a stack of hay in my truck. So maybe THE SEVEN O’CLOCK GUN is like the musical American South of Nottingham?

Wow. The vocal chords of NADIA RAE have got some serious ‘sit up and pay attention’ factor to them. She makes R&B and electronic crossover tracks and is the kind of singer who sounds even better live than on the studio versions of her songs.

Indie Rock n Rollers THE FLAVELLS will also be there playing their unique music that sounds like it comes from a bunch of rock stars with decades of TV smashing under the belts.

FRIDAY

There’s a Hip Hop and Grime special this Thursday so get your magnums, your 16 bars and your skank face ready ‘cos Wheels is gonna be live-o.

ZED BOYS make the kind of Grime music that has got a, well, grimey edge to it. Funny that. Expect music that make you flex your bass face muscles and get you drawing for the gun fingers.

0115 MOB are playing (awesome name btw, #nottsrepresent), and will be delivering dark Hip Hop, Trap-esque beats with banging lyrical delivery. Think Stooki Sound goes grime on your local estate.

VANDULL will be playing and bringing the kind of bouncy grime that takes us back to the old skool grime days with fast paced, adrenaline-infused beats. Check out the politely named ‘Fuck Off’, here (sorry mum).

Did you know that JAH DIGGA means ‘yes mate’ in German? #factoftheday. Jah’s got some really tight, reflective bars and effortless flow. He also shouts out Nottingham a lot in his bars so, y’know, double big ups from us.

AYE NIZZY makes broody HIp Hop that suits moments when you wanna sit back and contemplate life. Teamed with his impeccable delivery, it’s no wonder he’s caught the attention of SBTV and Lord of the Mics.

Turning the bass levels up to about 1000 will be NARTZ, whose music is so off the Richter scale it might spark the world’s first ever bass-induced earthquake.

PHIDIZZ is having a busy weekend this week, as he’s back after Notts Factor to play here too. Double PHIDIZZ? We’re pheeling dizz (yes, that is the same joke, but, y’know, who doesn’t enjoy a good pun amirite?).

FRENZY, QUAID, GB & VENDZ, collectively known as SET115, will also be playing what I’m gonna go ahead and coin the classic ‘Grime starter pack’ combination- heavy bass, home-y style beats, tunes about money, making movements and the ends.

Z£D is definitely one to watch on the Notts music scene. As well as being a seriously talented producer, he’s got smooth bars and a sick voice to match. His Soundcloud is a real showcase of his talent- it’s Hop Hop meets R&B meets Soul and has had me vibesing at my desk all day.

FRIDAY

TUSK are launching their new single at Rough Trade this Friday with an awesome set of support acts too. TUSK vocalist Ned’s tone has a really deep and mellow edge to it and the band’s new song ‘Matter of Time’ has got ‘future number 1’ written all over it.

The VEGA BAY boys are also busy bees this weekend, playing here after their appearance at Notts Fest the day before. Their music is a bit like a musical berocca: you, but on a really good day.

CHERRY HEX AND THE DREAM CHURCH will be performing. Their music takes us on a musical trip without the LSD and makes us feel all warm and spacey and relaxed.
