GIG ONE

For something a little different this Friday, head on down to The Contemporary for Pentatronix – a collaborative celebration of world music.

SABAR SOUNDSYSTEM
15-piece percussion mavericks SABAR SOUNDSYSTEM take world-flavoured dance beats and Western tunes to create something hypnotic to watch & impossible to forget. With influences from across the globe, SABAR SOUNDSYSTEM are fresh, original & completely unique.

HAIKI LOKI
Hailing from Ethiopia & calling Notts her home, HAIKI LOKI is a hidden gem of the Notts music scene. A self-taught singer/song-writer, her edgy brand of Soul takes influences from numerous cultural and musical experiences and makes for something totally refreshing.

Also on the night will be Chinese virtuoso string player Ling Peng, mesmerizing beats from Biant Singh on tabla plus Sura Susso, an enchanting Kora (African harp) player from the Gambia.

And then there is the night’s show piece event – PENTATRONIX. A specially commissioned collaborative work between SABAR SOUNDSYSTEM, Ling Peng and producer Si Tew. Find out more in the brand new LeftLion which is out this weekend, you can also get a sneak peak in this you tube VID.

GIG TWO

On June 8th, FISTS are pulling out all the stops for the release of their LP ‘Phantasm’ by throwing the mother of all release parties at The Union Rowing Club. Promising a day filled with music, merriment & jerk chicken. We were sold at merriment, the chicken sealed the deal.

FISTS
As their name suggests, FISTS deliver one hell of a punch (sorry couldn’t resist). Get ready to do some serious air-punching as their infectious anthems & bucket loads of energy make each performance a blissfully intense experience. FISTS are sure to satisfy your cravings! Be they music or chicken based.

KOGUMAZA
A unique blend of psychedelic garage-rock with more soothing elements, eclectic three-piece KOGUMAZA bring their woven tapestry of musical genres to the day. A band whose members have previously played in bands such as WOLVES OF GREECE & SAVOY GRAND, this experience is sure to add some serious colour to their performance.

CANTALOUPE
Having secured plays on XFM & Radio 1 in the past couple of months, things are really picking up for CANTALOUPE. Like the hosts they are signed to local label Hello Thor, CANTALOUPE effortlessly fuse together synthy elements of afrobeat and disco that are sure to add a certain je ne sais quoi to proceedings.

Also playing are other local favourites such as KAGOULE and BUS STOP MADONNAS.

PRICE: £7 adv, £10 otd.
DOORS: 1pm

GIG THREE

A bittersweet event as we bid a very reluctant farewell (sob) to Sounddhism. It’s curtain call for Nottingham’s leading Soul night and they’re sending it off in style this Saturday (kinda, rumours already abound of an encore, one final fling, some time in August).

GEORIGE ROSE BAND
We’ve fallen in love with GEORIGE ROSE solo, but she is stepping it up for this event & bringing along her whole band. Beautifully crafted Acoustic Folk, her silky vocals and haunting performances are utterly captivating & it seems the rest of the UK are catching up with Notts and falling under Georgie’s spell. Ridiculously talented, catch our Future Session with Georgie last year HERE.

SHELTER POINT
Two-piece SHELTER POINT mix electronic music & lush vocals to make something innovative & addictive. Having played this year’s Dot to Dot, these guys are turning more & more heads with their synthy electro sounds akin to The XX. Gorgeous, celestial & well worth a watch.

*Unfortunately NADIA LATOYA has had to pull out of this event.*

GEORGIA COPELAND
Filling in for NADIA LATOYA is the equally talented GEORGIA COPELAND. With a gorgeous soulful vocal, her catchy choruses and R&B infused Pop songs are a winning formula, marking Georgia as definitely one to watch this year.

Also playing is London band Akesha Jam.

PRICE: £3 on guest list, £5 on door.
DOORS: 10pm

Yours in Love of New Music,
