GIG ONE

Do you love Ska? Do you love ridiculously fun live music? Do you want to help save the Arctic Circle whilst enjoying both the above? If the answer is yes, then get on over to The Maze this Friday for Save the Skartic. Brought to you by Greenpeace and some wicked local artists, the proceeds from this event will go to help prevent oil drilling in the Arctic.

BREADCHASERS
The only way I can think of describing BREADCHASERS live is like a Reggae Bull trapped in a Ska tearoom and the result is awesome. Expect a set of fun, charisma and bags of energy to raise your spirits and keep an eye peeled for the bands upcoming second album…

FIGHTING EVIL IS COOL
Six-piece madhouse FIGHTING EVIL IS COOL are on next. Sure to fill their room with their Ska-Punk silliness, they’ll bring skankers to the front of the stage like a tramp on chips. Don’t miss out.

Manchester band Salutation Dub & a DJ set from Porkchopper Sounds complete the lineup.

Oh, and did I mention that there will be live circus acts…?

PRICE: £5
DOORS: 8pm

GIG TWO

An event that will make a difference, mooch on over to The Elwes Arms in Carlton for The Rosie May Music Fundraiser this Saturday. Set up in 2004 by Graham & Mary Storrie following the tragic murder of their daughter, The Rosie May Memorial Fund benefits the Sheffield Paediatric Intensive Care Unit who gave amazing care for Rosie in her last 48 hours. With an incredible smorgasbord of local talent dedicated to the event, it really is a gig worth going to.

INDOOR STAGE
Making some noise on the indoor stage are some of the creme de la creme of Notts bands. Stoner Rockers THE FADE kick things off at 3 with a whiskey-fuelled set which is followed by Alt-Metal powerhouse LUCKY FATE. FSN Finalists and all-round nice guys THE GORGEOUS CHANS will get you groovin’ with their impossibly catchy World Pop at 5 before MAGDALLA will have you moshing with their no frills Rock. ALEXA HAWKSWORTH will bring a more chilled pace with her gorgeous Acoustic Folk and Alt-Rockers THE CTRL and Indie quartet PREFONTAINE close the stage at 8 and 9.

OUTDOOR STAGE
The outdoor Acoustic Stage is bringing some chilled vibez to the event. The ever-enchanting ANYWN WILLIAMS opens the stage at 2.15, a set which is followed by Spread The Love extraordinaire JOSH WHEATLEY. The talented MATT BLICK is on at 3.15 with Acoustic prodigy MATT HUMPHRIES in close pursuit. ADAM ‘RED BEAR’ CLARKSON and his Forest Pop will take centre stage at 4.15 before songbird EMMA BLADON JONES, soulful CHLOE MCSHANE and simply amazing MARC REEVES follow with their sets. Folky songstress GEORGIE ROSE closes the stage in style at 6.15.

DJ sets and talking by/from Trent Sound and Nottingham Live DJs.

PRICE: £3 adv, £4 OTD.

GIG THREE

It’s finally here! It’s the Future Sound of Nottingham Final 2013! From the largest number of entries we’ve ever had, just six incredible artists have made it through to the Rock City final that take place this Sunday.

THE GORGEOUS CHANS
First up on to the legendary stage are six piece THE GORGEOUS CHANS. With songs reminiscent of Vampire Weekend and the like, their quirky World Pop is rife with nifty hooks, tight harmonies and stick-in-your-head choruses.

HUSKIES
Indie quartet HUSKIES are having a pretty good time at the moment. As well as winning themselves a slot at this event, they’ve also secured a slot on the BBC Introducing Stage at this year’s Y-Not Festival. And with fantastically catchy Indie-Pop, it’s not surprising why!

TASHA DEAN
One of top scoring acts from the judges round, TASHA DEAN will no doubt wow the audience too. Her effortlessly Soulful style is matched by incredible vocals and songs that have earnt her plays on 1Xtra, marking her as a star on the rise.

SAM JONES
Indie Folkster SAM JONES steps up to win your vote next. Sure to keep you rooted to the spot from his first song, his smooth ‘n’ silky vocals will bring some chilled-out vibes to the night. Watch out for folk force SAM JONES!

LOOPHOLE PROJECT
Newbies to the Notts music scene, LOOPHOLE PROJECT are the second act to get through on the judges vote. Nifty Electro hooks, the trio are gaining some serious recognition at the moment and intend to show you why this Sunday.

FRANKIE RUDOLF
Final act of the night is Wollaton lad FRANKIE RUDOLF. Lovely vocals and brilliant Acoustic Folk tunes, Frankie’s musical maturity defies his years and you’ll be humming his tracks for days after.

This is a definite must for any Notts music lover. The event is 100% free so just rock up, have a bevvy and support your favourite act. Sunday night perfection. Check out the Facebook event HERE.

PRICE: FREE – No tickets needed!
DOORS: 6.30pm

DISCLAIMER:FRANKIE RUDOLF & THE GORGEOUS CHANS have EP launches this week, both with very strong lineups. Whilst in normal circumstances both events would have qualified for the Top 3, as they are both FSN finalists we did not feel it would be fair to the other finalists to include them this week. That is unless we could have done one for each act which would have resulted in a top 9 which is quite frankly ridiculous.

Yours in Love of New Music,
Maddie Hammond. X
