Since NINA SMITH played for us live in her first ever media appearance in January 2008 we have given hundreds of Nottingham musicians their first piece of media exposure, we’ll be listing here (when we get round to going through the records) at the very least:
FIRST SESSIONS – All dates are the date of release, sessions are actually recorded 19 days before the release date and normally booked in at least three months in advance.
Long before the concept of Future Sessions were born we hosted informal live performances in the URN studios in the early days of Nusic (Jan – June 2008), when it was a student radio show.
When Trent FM signed up the Nusic team to create the Trent FM New Music Podcast we started doing simple live sessions in the Trent FM studios during the summer of 2008. Artists enjoying their first ever session for a professional radio station included NINA SMITH, KIRK SPENCER, CHERRY, RAZOR, THE OTHER LEFT, EULER, PAPA LA BAS…
In the summer of 2009 we secured some support from One Nottingham to launch Notts Unsigned and so in the Autumn of 09 starting doing Future Sessions, our funding was to support young musicians starting out and so the criteria to qualify for an Future Session became that you must be under 25, you must live in Nottingham and you must have never had a professional session before. RONIKA was in theory ‘too qualified’ but we did our first session with her as a thank you as she gave up a lot of time over the summer of 2009 helping us demo the idea of sessions to potential supporters.
