Happy 2016 folks. There’s plenty of New Notts musical action to get involved with this week, including an Indie Pop Rock headline show at Rescue Rooms, Rough Trade are showcasing some of the best upcoming artists and there’s an Indie Pop headline show at The Bodega.

GIG ONE – Thursday

After supporting both Coasts and APRIL TOWERS at the venue last year, SUSPECT ALIBI will be taking to the stage at Rescue Rooms on Thursday for their own headline show. Not a bad way to kick off the new year, ay? The West Bridgford five-piece formed back in 2012 and have been making Indie Pop Rock ever since. The band were the winners of #FSN2015 which led to them playing Splendour in July. Their anthemic sound is fuelled by synth keys, refined guitars and catchy choruses.

Support comes from THE MOCKING JAYS, who released their debut EP ‘TMJ’ last month over at The Maze and also received their first National radio play on 6Music. The four-piece create Pop infused with Indie stylings, refined riffs and choruses so catchy you’ll be singing ’em as if you’ve heard them hundreds of times before!

THE SPECIES are the second support act of the evening. The four piece create Alternative Rock inspired by late 60s Psychedelia which they describe as “heavy, gloomy and delicately dissonant.” But it’s not anywhere near as depressing as they make it sound. Promise.

NO DISCO are also supporting on Thursday. They released their EP ‘Just Visiting’ at the end of November showcasing their Pop laced, Indie Rock sound. The three piece create music reminiscent of the mid-noughties filled with refined riffs and memorable hooks.

Black Cats & Magpies from Derbyshire will also be supporting.

GIG TWO – Friday

Can’t Stop Won’t Stop (CSWS) is coming to Rough Trade on Friday. They’ll be bringing you a range of R&B, Hip Hop, House and Funk from some of Notts’ finest as well as resident DJs.

ELLA KNIGHT will be performing on Friday. The seventeen year old has a gorgeously soulful voice that shines through on all her varied styles of music. She’s already performed in front of the Royal Family and got a picture with Haz and Wills (jealous? Me? How dare you). Not many musicians can say that just a few years into their career.

Poet, rapper and producer J GOLD was born into a family of musicians and began creating his own music from an early age. His track ‘Soul On My Sleeve’ was played on 1Xtra in early 2015 by Nottingham’s own Mista Jam. KAMAR, who features on the track, will also be performing on the evening. You can also catch KC DA ROOKEE who has recently returned to the scene after falling back in love with Hip Hop. The artists have just collaboratively released a mixtape under LTMT, which stands for Let The Music Talk. The project are showcasing their new wave of music and individual sound.

The Electronic mastermind EARLY BIRD will be providing the beats.

GIG THREE – Saturday

Saturday night sees ASHFIELDS headline The Bodega! After forming back in March 2014 (which was actually nearly two years ago, not the other day. Yeah, I know!) the five-piece from Sutton-in-Ashfield have gone onto play The Royal Concert Hall and come 3rd in Q Magazine’s Richer Unsigned Indie Chart 2015. Not too bad, ay? They create Indie Pop with a slightly darker side to it, recently releasing a video to new single ‘The Wild’ from their upcoming debut EP.

ANWYN WILLIAMS will be supporting on the evening. Creating her own style of Acoustic Country Folk influenced by the likes of Joni Mitchell and Stevie Nicks. Writing beautifully honest and storytelling lyrics performed with her sweet, Country twanged voice.

Also supporting will be PAT CUNNINGHAM. Pat is a guitar master/genius/god and has recently started teaching his magical guitar ways at bootcamps in Mansfield. He had to take a break from gigging for a while last year after suffering with his wrist from playing his guitar too much (that’s dedication!) But he’s rested now and he’s back!
