Notts YMCA is on the look out for young musicians to get involved with the East Midlands leg of the national Peace Mix Mic relay. Like the Pied Piper of up-and-coming artists, the Peace Mix Mic relay tour offers a showcase for all forms of raw, unsigned talent from big band boppers to soulful street poets. Inspired by the New Day Foundation, Peace Mix’s aim is simple; to spread a message of peace through music whilst providing young people with the chance to explore their hometown’s musical facilities.

The tour hits up publicly funded music studios up and down the country in search for the freshest, finest new talents, giving them the chance to record their own peace song and perform live to an exclusive audience. One winner from each local studio will go on to battle it out at the regional Peace Mix Play Off final at Cornwall’s Eden Project on August 16th, competing for the grand prize of a supporting slot to a mystery headliner at the Peace Mix Presents finale on August 28th at Camden’s Roundhouse, the legendary venue which has played host to the likes of Oasis, Tinie Tempah and even Jimi Hendrix.

Exciting, no? Well it just gets better as the tour will be hitting up Nottingham’s new youth centre NGY on July 20th which, given the current buzz surrounding the city’s music scene, will no doubt be a melting pot of burgeoning talent.

‘BUT HOW DO I GET INVOLVED’ I hear you cry. Well it’s easy: If you are aged 16-24 and have a passion for music, any music, then simply:

1- upload two of your tracks (one original, one peace themed) onto Youtube and tag ‘Nottingham Peace Mix Relay’.
2- Send an email to peacemix@nottsymca.com with a link to their songs and contact details.

Just four acts will be asked to perform at the NGY and be in with this amazing opportunity, so what are you waiting for?! Entry deadline is MONDAY 9th JULY so get involved and get noticed. Visit www.peacemix.co.uk for further information. You can also check out Peace Mix on Facebook HERE.

Yours in love of new music
