Good news Notts, there’s a lil’ something for everyone this week with an eclectic mixed bag of musical genres to satisfy all your gig-going needs!

GIG ONE – Thur April 5th

So, first up we have Jam Cafe presenting Shut up and Listen!’ on April 5th – ‘a new night featuring Nottingham’s most talented and creative songwriters and performers who are multifaceted, eclectic and diverse.’ What’s not to like, right?

Kicking off the night we have the brassy hooks of HARLEIHGBLU. Having recently seen her rock the soulful socks off the Bodega last week, HARLEIGHBLU is making plenty of noise around the Nottingham music scene and it’s clear from her live performances why – her vibrant vocals and crooning essence will infuse you with the need to move n’ groove around the dancefloor.

Next we have THE MONEY‘s very own JAKE BUCKLEY. Well known for their juggernaut give-it-all-or-nothing approach to live performances, Jake slows things down by going solo yet still effortlessly retains his bands charismatically charged demeanour. Tracks such as the beautifully rendered ‘Half’s too much to lose’ will make your heartstrings flutter, where as the clever but brutally honest lyrics of ‘My name’s Jake and I’m an alcoholic’ will make you want to laugh and/or cry at the realisation you can relate to every single word. Find out what I mean by listening to Jake on the New Music Podcast HERE.

GIG TWO – Tue April 3rd

However if jazzy vibes or acoustic sensitivity don’t whet your musical appetite, fear not – The Maze strikes down it’s metaphorical post-hardcore hammer with gusto and is producing a line-up consisting of some of Nottingham’s most talented head bangers at Macmillan Fest. First up on the list we have Alternative metal rioters INTO RUINS. As their band name suggests, INTO RUINS’ sound is one that comprises of relentlessly chaotic anthemic riffs, heated lyrics and an explosive energy that is definately not for the feint hearted. With heavy influences from the likes of Slipknot, Korn and Rage Against the Machine, expect these guys to dish out the dirt on stage and leave you begging for more!

Continuing the hardcore vibes are melodic deathcore five-piece DAY OF UNREST. If during gigs you’re a fan of keeping your feet on the ground, you’re in for a shocker – DOU’s intense combination of battered breakdowns, gritty growls and piercing screams will knock you for six. Be warned, Notts gig-goers and potential delicate wallflowers; The Macmillan Fest will be sure to provide sweat and mosh pits a-plenty!

GIG THREE – Fri 6th April (please note date change)

Their too young to be called legends but what other word does justice to April’s ARTIST OF THE MONTH THE SMEARS?! Launching their second album out into the wild this Saturday, we’ll have more on this gig plus a review of the brand new album for you on Wednesday. We’ll also have an interview with the band later in the month and will be playing them on all New Music Podcast’s throughout April, they said we had to or they’d kick us in the balls.

Yours in love of new Music,
Tom Hadfield and Cerys Owen x
