Happy New Year you lovely lot. We hope you’ve all shook off that NY hangover and you’re all ready to get back into the swing of awesome Notts gigs going off this week. There’s some proper variation this week, with a bit of Folk, Soul, Indie, Garage Rock and more to satisfy your musical cravings.

GIG ONE

Kicking things off we have a selection of fine tunes at The Orange Tree, as Look! The Moon returns on Wednesday, thanks to I’m Not From London.

The night starts with the beautiful, soulful sounds of JASMIN ISAAKA. With songs that take you on a journey and catchy melodies that have you hanging on every word, Jasmin is quite the performer. And she’s the perfect remedy to all those mental nights you’ve been having recently.

Next up we’ll have DH LAWRENCE & THE VAUDEVILLIAN SKIFFLE SHOW, a band whose music is as unique as their name. The band mix elements from loads of different genres together to make something that we’ve never heard before. It’s like a mix of Folk, Americana, Bluegrass, and we’re sure a load of other genres that we can’t think of right now. Anyways, they sound awesome, and you should definitely check them out!

Rounding off the night we have CAREEN, who provide a very pleasant listening experience. Best summed up as Folk sprinkled with elements of several genres, CAREEN mix together several layers of sound into something that warms you up inside. And no, we didn’t get it confused with the whisky!

GIG TWO

Next up we’ve got Notts In A Nutshell at The Maze on Sunday, which sees loads of ace Alternative acts come together for a great value entry price.

The night starts with the Countryfied Indie sounds of NICK ASLAM. A fella who is a stunning wordsmith, as well as quite the performer. Described as having the “charisma of Neil Diamond and the white of Alex Turner”, you won’t want to miss his performance!

Following we’ll have ELDERS who will get the party started with their Punk Rock/Ska sounds. We’re afraid there isn’t too much info for ‘em out here on the world wide web, as they’ve only just joined the land of FB, so make sure to drop them a like, and prepare for some proper skanking action!

FLEETS are up next with some good old fashioned Garage Rock which is sure to get everybody going a little bit crazy. The four piece made quite a name for themselves with some ace live performances in 2014, so, make sure you catch ‘em at this, as 2015 is looking good for them!

SAME STREETS take to the stage next with their swaggerful Rock n Roll sounds. Full with plenty of catchy melodies, guitar riffs and percussion, they’ve got an arsenal of songs behind them now that always make for a sweet live performance.

Topping it all off we have THE TANGENTS who offer some proper Indie sounds. Think early Arctic Monkeys but with a contemporary edge, and you’ve got a good idea of what to expect. Honest lyrics and raw yet catchy instrumentation, you’ll be jumping around to these guys in no time!

GIG THREE

The final gig of your week comes courtesy of Jam Cafe on Sunday, who have gone and got the new side project of BABY GODZILLA, and some sweet Alternative stylings from BAYBO SQUAYBO.

You’re probably familiar with the absolutely mental Metal sounds of BABY GODZILLA, but you may not be so familiar with HAGGARD CAT BOTHDAY PRESENT. Producing what is described as “Brutal, raucous but sometimes melodic blues and thrash”, we cannot wait to see it for ourselves. If it’s anything like BABY GODZILLA, we, are, sold!

Chances are you’re familiar with the brilliantly named BAYBO SQUAYBO too, as they’ve been gigging quite a bit in late 2014. If not under this guise, you may recognise the members from THE FADE and WATERS EDGE. Now they’re making sweet, sweet melodic sounds under a new name, and believe us, they’re very, very good!

Doors: 7:15pm
Price: £3
