We hope you’ve saved up your energy over January, cos this week there’s tons of high energy gigs that require more than just a gentle head nod. There’s a Grime night at The Bodega, a Reggae night at The Maze and a festival celebrating all things undead at The Running Horse.

WEDNESDAY

Some of Nottingham’s finest Grime MC’s will be taking over The Bodega on Wednesday for Rebound #2. These lot are putting Nottingham on the map of the UK Grime scene.

Producer duo BEATGEEKS will be laying down the beat. Made up of Elreezy and Blenda, BEATGEEKS have been behind some of Notts’ slickest productions over the past few years. Who for? Well, lots of peeps, including the below…

They will be joined by the NOTTINGHAM CREW 1,2SNOWY, J DOT, MEZ, KYEZA and JAH DIGGAWith well over a million combined YouTube views, they’re becoming well established within the Grime community. Already picked up by DJs on 1Xtra and Rinse FM, if you haven’t already heard these lot, you’re about to.

FRIDAY

The Maze are hosting a night filled with Reggae, Afrobeat, Dancehall and Beatboxing on Friday, bringing together some of the best artists from the Notts scene.

ORIGIN ONE are the main Notts act of the evening. Creating a fusion of Dub, Reggae, Hip Hop and Jungle, the amount of energy created from their performances could easily power half the country. Signed to Deeper Than Roots, the collective are filled with plenty of familiar faces, including – N3ON, PERCYDREAD, PARISA, TREKKAH,and BRU-C .

BUD will be showing off her Reggae infused Folk Pop, with beautiful melodies and a spine-chilling vocal. She recently ran a successful Kickstarter campaign to raise money for her first music video for ‘City Bird.’ You can see the pilot online already – it involves people getting wings as the next new trend (check it out – it’ll make more sense).

MOTORMOUF & ASHMORE will be bringing a mixture of Reggae, Ska, Hip Hop and Gypsy, backed by some mouth magic (we’re talking about Beatboxing btw). Taking inspiration for their lyrics from their life experiences and things that generally piss them off, these guys always put on an energetic and relatable performance.

KOG & the Zongo Brigade from Sheffield will also be performing .

SATURDAY

The Walking Dead returns for a sixth season this weekend, so The Running Horse are putting on a festival called… THE RUNNING DEAD FEST! Get it? Cause running and walking… Best. Name. Ever. Not only does the festival have an awesome name, there are loads of Nottingham bands on the line up. So whack out your best post-apocalyptic zombie-ridden world costume and head down to The Running Horse.

First on the line up are THRASONIC, who we hear are taking time out from their modelling careers and nuclear engineering to play their blues. If the whole band thing is just a side-project, I’d love to see what they can achieve on the runway. You can catch PRIME performing their newly released EP ‘IOU’ filled with Indie Rock infused with Post Punk. HUNG DADDY will be bringing some Metal to event (alongside the self-confessed “best worst band name you’ll ever hear”). THE RUFFS (you know, CONNOR SPRAY AND THE INDIABEES) will be bringing along their straight talking Indie Rock & Roll, layered with some proper Hucknall swagger. They couldn’t have picked a better new band name. Finally THEE EVILTONES, will be performing their garage rock laced with “demon raising surf at face melting pace” (which sounds perfect for a festival celebrating the undead).

You’ll be able to catch loads more Notts acts including; SATAN’S MINEONS, THE YOUNG, VANITY BOX , THE SPECIES and CITY OF KITES.
