GIG ONE

Stressed out by the travails of modern-day life? Seeking some soothing melodies to ease your very soul? Then Nottingham-based Folk outfit RUE ROYALE’s upcoming show at the wonderful Malt Cross this Tuesday will be just the tonic.

Having built a cult following on the blogosphere and touring circuit, alongside the self-release of their aptly-titled second record ‘Guide To An Escape,’ the Anglo-American duo play a homecoming show of sorts as they return to the city where they began their Folk adventure. Packed to the rafters with quaint guitars and delicate vocals, they create just the kind of ambiance you require for a quiet after-work/lecture pint. It’s sure to be a show that’ll give you that warm, fuzzy feeling we all crave as summer turns to autumn and college/uni/whatever rears it’s head again. Oh, and the show itself is free, so really you’ve very few excuses to not go along and support the terribly lovely RUE ROYALE.

GIG TWO

From those maniacs over at Farmyard Records comes a night of top notch, guitar-driven goodness. Taking place at The Jam Cafe as part of the on-going WEYA celebrations, amongst others local favourites KAPPA GAMMA and KAGOULE will be shaking the stage this Friday at what promises to be a night not to be missed.

KAPPA GAMMA
With their self-branded ‘geography rock’, KAPPA GAMMA are one of Notts’ top up-and-coming bands. Signed to local label Denizen Recordings, their complex, disjointed rock has notched up a hoard of dedicated supporters as well as securing national radio play on XFM, 6 Music AND Radio 1 with their single ‘Just Another’. With melodies that take you from anthemic highs to spine-tingling lows, KAPPA GAMMA are for lovers of smart, soaring and geographical rock.

KAGOULE
Also playing are rock prodigies KAGOULE. Haunting vocals, a barrage of bass and intoxicating melodies akin to The Smashing Pumpkins, this band are sending shockwaves throughout Nottingham (and further afield) as one of the most promising acts around. Expect uproar when their anthem ‘Made in Concrete’ is played too. A band who always deliver live sets brimming with intensity, check out their Future Session HERE if you don’t believe us.

LEO AND THE SERAPHIM
Formely known as The Foncheros, LEO AND THE SERAPHIM is the latest project of Notts folk favorite CHRIS MCDONALD. Delicately powerful vocals, indulgent melodies and tight as hell performances, LEO AND THE SERAPHIM are one of the those bands you can stick on repeat and just not get bored of. With songs that exploit Chris’ natural musicianship and flair for epic songwriting, LEO AND THE SERAPHIM are somewhat of a Notts hidden diamond. Look out for familiar faces on the stage too, as Chris is often joined by a who’s who of Notts musicians in his band.

GIG THREE

Continuing with the WEYA festivities, 5 elements of a Hip-Hop Planet at Nottingham’s Switch Studios takes place this Wednesday and celebrates the city’s urban side, as well as some incredible talent from all corners of the world!

KARIZMA
‘Lyrical Soldier’ Karizma salutes you with the hard sounds of hip-hop, grime and dubstep. The rapper was a member of the famous Out Da Ville Crew before going solo to work on his own projects. With influences from Nick Stez, Lee Ramsay and Jay Z, KARIZMA has sprung back and taken his sounds to the next level. You gotta love a bit of Bass shaking.

DUKE01
Also performing at this exciting International event is DUKE01. With hip hop being very close to his heart, DUKE01, continually rolls up raw beats with impressive hooks and old school grime. What’s not to like? Following his 6 track album ‘Steroid Stereo’, DUKE01 will be celebrating with a release party later on this month. Big things are happening – watch this space! Check out his tune ‘Silence Fiction‘ on the latest Nusic New Music Podcast HERE.

JUGA-NAUT
Talented producer/songwriter/rapper JUGA-NAUT will be stepping to the mic to deliver. Having worked with artists like Scorzayee, Scorcher and Joe Buddah, JUGA-NAUT is certainly making a name for himself on the Notts urban scene. Having put his heart and soul into his latest venture and producing every aspect of the music itself, his August released EP ‘Battle of The Bulge’ experiments with a deeper lyrical concept and hardcore beats. Prepare to stand to attention when JUGA-NAUT takes the stage!

MOTORMOUF
Showing what one man can do with just his mouth (oo er) is the incredible beat-box talent MOTORMOUF. Prepare to get into that party spirit with his raw organic sound and evocatic performance style which will leave you completely gob smacked. Also part of electronic powerhouse JUST JAMES, prepare to marvel at MOTORMOUF: Nottingham’s human beat box.

Also performing: Notts DJ and producer Furious P and WEYA Artists: Nicholas Diaz (Uruguay), Jose Salvador Solis Jimenez (Panama), Naranoeni Noriega (Panama), Flavio Renegado (Brazil)
