This weekend has potential to be a bit incredible. If you attend all of our Top 3 gigs and throw in a cheeky mosh at Hit The Deck Festival on Sunday evening then you could risk a live music overdose.

GIG ONE

They say the best things in life come free, right? You won’t have to pay a penny to witness some of Nottingham’s finest in the form of FISTS, KAGOULE and CANTALOUPE at the Leftlion Presents event at Nottingham Contemporary on April 21st. The official UN-official after party for the FUTURE SOUND of NOTTINGHAM Semi Finals! And the OFFICIAL after-party for THE MUSIC EXCHANGE‘s all day celebrations in honour of RECORD STORE DAY. Leftlion Music Editor Paul K will be playing something called vinyl during the day alongside Hello Thor head honcho Anders.

After a whirlwind mini-tour of East Coast America including dates in Boston and New York, Nottingham welcomes indie-rockers FISTS back with open arms. Having played sets at Summer Sundae and a lil’ backyard festival one or two of us know as Glastonbury, FISTS will have you running to the dance floor, make sure you’re there.

Next up, post-punk grunge rockers KAGOULE bring their unique atmospheric sound to this brilliant line up. The deceptively powerful conflict between wallowing bass lines, wounded vocals and flitters of subtle melodies result in an intensely rich and gripping sound that will engage your senses in every way. Having played the Rock City Main Stage supporting local indie boys DOG IS DEAD, KAGOULE have already had a taste of success and it’s clear these guys are on their way to big things! Check out our FUTURE SESSION with them HERE and our review of their Rock City performance HERE.

And last but by no means least, CANTALOUPE bring their experimental instrumental-pop vibes into the mix. Formed just over a year ago and having recently signed to label Hello Thor, CANTALOUPE effortlessly fuse together synthy elements of afrobeat and disco that will finish off/start (we don’t know set times yet!) your night with added oomph.

This event is a one-off and seriously has something for everyone, don’t miss out!

GIG TWO

Also on Saturday night but on a different vibe at Nottingham Playhouse is ELENA HARGREAVES with her band and support from sister Stephanie.

After recently wowing the Nusic team at a FUTURE SESSION (Watch HERE) with their beautiful melodies, stunning song writing ability and incredible vocals, THE HARGREAVES will definitely not leave you disappointed (whether its one or both of the sisters). Elena is a modern day contemporary pop musician who writes her own original tracks and performs with great flair and grace and even sings some songs in spanish to pay homage to her Columbian roots. Expect an evening of original music, fun duets and unexpected music compositions. The backing band includes the wonderful Ed Sillars on acoustic guitar, Elliot Coombes on electric guitar and Marta Tobar on the cello.
